Fiat has published a digital teaser of its upcoming Tipo SW set to bow in Geneva in a couple of days.

We were expecting to see the five-door hatchback first, but it seems Fiat has decided to come out with the wagon version instead and most likely it will be on display in Geneva starting Tuesday. The official teaser comes to confirm what we have seen already in spy photos showing it will be a quite attractive wagon.

The boomerang shape of the taillights will have more in common with the hatchbackrather than the already available Tipo sedan. These will extend onto the taillights and should make the wagon look pretty sweet, but not as nice as the attached teaser wants us to believe. A rear wiper will obviously be added on the production car while the wheels won’t be as large as depicted in the teaser.

Technical specifications are already pretty much known as the Tipo SW (name not confirmed) will get the sedan’s pair of naturally-aspirated 1.4- and 1.6-liter gasoline units. The more frugal turbodiesel 1.3- and 1.6-liter MultiJet II duo will also be available. Depending on which one you choose, Fiat will sell the Tipo SW with a choice of five- and six-speed manual transmissions along with a six-speed automatic.

Wagon buyers are mostly interested in the trunk’s capacity and in this case it should be at least 19.4 cubic feet (550 liters). Keep in mind this just only an estimation based on the fact the sedan has 18.3 cu. ft. (520 liters) to offer with the rear seats up.

We will have all the details very soon as the Fiat Tipo SW is expected to premiere on Tuesday at the 86th Geneva Motor Show.

Update : Geneva is all Begin and FCA has revealed Fiat Tipo Station Wagon

Fiat has expanded the Tipo range with the fresh new hatchback and estate versions that make world debut in Geneva.

The new Fiat Tipo already offers good value for money and now it is getting even more practical with the introduction of a station wagon variant. The model gains the typical design elements for an estate, including third window on each side, longer roof, wiper on the rear window, and, naturally, a bigger trunk. The car also comes with roof rails and reshaped taillights, compared to the sedan model.

Also on display in Geneva will be the Tipo hatch, which follows the same design recipe at the back. We still don’t have exact details regarding the boot size, but it will be significantly smaller than the 18.3 cu. ft. (520 liters) of the Tipo sedan.

Both vehicles take the engine lineup of the sedan, which means European customers will be able to choose from naturally aspirated 1.4- and 1.6-liter petrol engines, as well as from the 1.3 and 1.6 Multijet II diesel duo. Depending on the selected unit, Fiat will offer the hatch and estate with either a five- or six-speed manual gearboxes, while the six-speed auto will be optionally available.

    Fiat's crafted yet another looker!

Here's the TopGear review of the Tipo 1.4 T-Jet -
    http://www.topgear.com/car-reviews/tipo/first-drive

Seems like a few of the keywords used to describe Fiats here, are shared by the Tipo too - 1.3 Diesel: no torque; Gearbox: rubber :(.

I believe it's got an EPS, yet TG thinks it's decently weighted and that's good news!

The 1.6 mjd+ddct is the 'killer app' as far as the Tipo in the Uk and France, Spain+Germany etc are concerned, and the sheer quality-yet-inexpensive VFM factor. They're going after the 'company/executivee car' and 'rental car' leasing markets: the biggest in europe and growing ever bigger, given the ultra ow interest rates and deals. That combo has terrific, more-or-less class-leading co2 and fuel efficiency figures, which lowers taxes and insurance rates.....

The trick, unlike Ford, Opel, Renault etc is to make money over the business/market cycle in the process: one they've seemingly achieved via the low-cost base of the WCM gold jv tofas plant in currency-depreciated Turkey, which has low-tariff access to the eu market.

The 'aspirational/emotional/lifestyle' higher-margin private buyer market is being catered for well for fca by the 500, 500X, 500L, 124 spider, Panda Cross 4x4 and the upcoming (credibly rumoured) 500XL c-suv + the new Abarths (124, 500, 500X) of course.

And then, there is high-growth, high-margin Jeep as well as the new entry-luxe-market Alfa Romeo Giulia and renewed Giulietta and their upcoming brand- and platform mates....FCA is well covered in europe, and imo is fully-back AND HOW in europe after the long usa-centrism and euro recession caused product/lineup drought/lean-period.

btw, the Tipo in a somewhat reworked avatar is very very likely to be Mexico-made for the usa market as a 'Chrysler 100', likely either the hatchback or even the Fiat c-suv (500xl?) reworked. That cuv is of course near-identical under the skin and with powertrains to the SUSW Tipo and the brazilian Tipo pickup.

2017's european new Punto-replacement is said to be built and styled on the Tipo template: high quality and content for the price, yet higher-margin by being NOT made in Italy but rather exported from either turkey, serbia (with the 500L) or......here's hoping....India??

Fiat Tipo beats the Volkswagen Golf, and became the leader of the C segment in Italy
    to Davide Raia - 02/08/2016
    160502_Fiat_Tipo_01-700x467.jpg

The month of July ended a few hours marks the commercial success of the Fiat Tipo , the new family of C-segment cars of the Italian brand that has managed to achieve leadership in its segment overcoming competition from Volkswagen Golf that, for years, appeared to be , with a significant gap, the C-segment's best-selling in Italy. The success of the Fiat project type is clear, unequivocally, by the numbers. In July, in fact, the type has reached 3,161 units sold in Italy exceeding the 3,096 units sold in the Volkswagen Golf. Since the beginning of 2016, has already sold 17,316 units of type in Italy.

    Fiat-Tipo-3.jpg

On balance, the month of July was the first month of full commercialization of the Fiat range type which, remember, has three different variants. In addition to the type 4 Doors , on sale since last December, at the beginning of summer in the course have made their debut on the market also type 5 doors , the direct rival of the Golf, and type Station Wagon. These three projects covering , in a comprehensive manner, the C-segment and intended to meet the needs of a varied clientele than ever that data in hand, responded positively to the Fiat investment with many orders already placed and many more to come over the next few months .

Note that most of the 3000 and units sold by Fiat Tipo comes right from the Volkswagen Golf that in sharp contrast to the four Italian-wheeler market and compared to the data of the last months, recorded a sharp decline in July, rising from just over 4,000 units sold in July last year to about 3,000 units sold during the seventh month of 2016 . For the Fiat Tipo, the excellent results of July translate into seventh place among the best selling cars in Italy and a market share in the C segment amounted to 16.5%. Fiat-Tipo.jpg

After the arrival on the market of the type 4 Doors, we remember that at first it was only available in a basic version with engine 1.4 petrol 95 hp and the top engine version 1.6 MultiJet II 120 HP, Fiat has gradually expanded the range type presenting, during the Geneva motor Show last March, the type 5-door and type Station Wagon and then widening the range of engines available with the ' entry level diesel 1.3 MultiJet II 95 hP engine and the engine bi-fuel petrol / LPG 120 hP.
The Italian market has appreciated the project and the sales numbers show that, on balance, may be considered an extraordinary success. Beat the Volkswagen Golf, even in Italy, is a very difficult goal to achieve but the type has been shown to have all the papers in order to win the attention of customers through a comprehensive offering under all points of view and a value / great price. Over the next months we will see if the type will win the space it deserves in Europe where, especially in certain markets, the potential for success are very high.

Continue, therefore, to follow us with attention over the next few weeks. In mid-month, in fact, we will publish the final results of the sale of cars in Europe at the end of the first seven months of 2016. These data will allow us to have a clearer idea of the type of sales and its future potential.

    -----from clubalfa.it

The Tipo is also selling well, and growing month-on-month smartly in spain, france and even germany, etc.

Now that the european rebound from the nadir of the Great recession seems to be fast-losing steam, what with Brexit and many other political-economic blues, this could prove to be a best-selling model for Fiat/fca, europe-wide. Since it is a value-price-quality warrior. Its pricing competitiveness has just improved even further, given the further depreciation of the turkish lira.

Given this last fact, and with the already very-localized 1.3 mjd as well as the 1.4 t-jet in india, perhaps the Tipo sedan as well as say a cross/allroad avatar of the Tipo hatch/SW could make the imo13.xx odd lakh rupee or below cutoff in india too? As replacements for the Linea and also as Creta, S Cross, Duster competitors, to supplement the 2 localized Jeeps (one the 2017 c-suv/new Compass at a rumoured 19lakhs onwards, the other a Renegade-like model at 12-17 lakhs, apparently)?

No word, as usual, from FCA india on plans for the Fiat brand. All in with Jeep by august, and then the localized manufacture of the new c-suv in mid-2017 (as confirmed by Mike Manley, Jeep global and FCA asia-pac ceo, recently to The Economic Times.)

Nothing before 2018, at the earliest, then? Question is: are the Tipo-s viable cost/price/export-volumes wise if made in India? Or will they stick to, if at all, the new Punto, new Avventura and the new Grand Sienna that the now-lapsed (or delayed?) plan from 2013/14 had professed.
