@renlouis i got my 2010-60K-punto-90hp serviced yesterday at Kashyap Fiat, Noida . Total cost came to be around 20K . Due to Winter service camp they gave some discounts and total cost came to around 18K .

    Hi Guys,

Recently during the winter camp I took my car for the regular checkup at Oberoi Fiat, Noida. During the checkup it was found that the brake pads have almost worn out (only 1000-1500 kms life left). My car had run approx. 24000 kms till date. Do you think it is too early for it to be replaced? The whole thing cost INR 3400 to be replaced after the discounts.

    Regards
    Ashish

    Hi @vivek_lko

Can you upload the bill? 20k seems too much.

Your work is carried out as per book. Just inspect and keep an eye on things serviced and follow-up if anything is not to the mark. 60K service is bit expensive. If car is not in warranty things like wheel alignment and balancing could be avoided or got done from specialists. Bill looks pretty fine to me.

They charged you labor twice for brake pad replacement and timing chain replacement see the quantity in bill and I could not find brake pads mentioned in bill, costs 2800 for Type I and 3200 for Type II pads. Are you sure the brake pads were changed ?
Lubrication could have been avoided provides no benefits.
One more discrepancy in your bill is that it mentions only 3 Ltrs Premix Coolant while cooling system capacity is 7.6 ltrs out which some coolant remains in system even after draining and while refilling it takes somewhere around 6 ltrs.

@vIjAy_kHaSa, the timing chain part and labour is mentioned differently. The pads mentioned are also used in timing chain kit. What is indeed not clear is where is the brake pad spare part cost mentioned. Good find. Is it possible the billing guy forgot to mention this in bill? Coolant is changed completely at 60k service? Either ways 3 ltrs (top up?) means there was quite a sufficient drop in coolant levels.

@asimpleson Timing chain, 2 gears, 2 pads, chain stretcher and sealer are the parts required for timing chain replacement.
I was pointing towards the labour cost mentioned as Timing Chain Replacement notice the column of quantity in bill which states that this work was added twice by SC along with brake pad labour cost.
Coolant is changed completely at 60k either SC didn't drain complete coolant which is impossible as timing chain was replaced requiring removal of water pump so SC must have mixed 3 ltr water with already diluted 3 ltr Paraflu UP Premix Coolant.

And why is this big discrepancy in labor charges across India? The bill above says Rs 631. When I replaced my Punto's brake pad in Kerala earlier this month, labor charged was Rs.254.

In my case, brake pad replacement cost INR 406 done this month only.

guys the next day after i got my car serviced from kashyap fiat noida , i left for lucknow . Must have driven for around 600 kms when the battery warning light went up during normal driving . I called up Rafiq from Kashyap Fiat and he told me to do some basic tests . After I shared the results with him he confirmed an issue with the alternator and advised me to take it to FASS. Luckily I had already reached my destination in Lucknow. After Diwali I showed the car in Classic Fiat , Lucknow and they confirmed that the alternator has gone and needed a replacement. If not replaced a breakdown was imminent .

As expected the spare part was not available . However the Service Manager there (Mr Rehan) , realizing the gravity of the situation made all efforts and finally decided to take out the alternator from a demo car and replace it in my car . Of course no concession in the rates but a proper bill was given . Full Marks to Classic Fiat and service manager and service advisor(Mr Rehan and Mr Pawan Sachdeva) . However there were a few shockers :

    1. The coolant tank was almost empty , pointing to a pathetic service done at Kashyap Fiat just 4 days back .
    2. The brake fluid was just uptill the minimum mark again pointing to a pathetic service done at Kashyap Fiat .

For all the above the corresponding amount was already deducted by Kashyap Fiat Noida(Please see the bill above). Still these fluids were not topped up or replaced.

    3. If there was a 5th service done at Kashayp Fiat just 4 days back why the almost failing alternator issue was not caught ? Alternators I think cannot fail suddenly but gradually and if the Scanner (OBD) was properly examined this should have been reported - before the warning light on the dashboard reported this . Is it again pointing to some "missing observation" at Kashyap ? Can the alternators fail suddenly ? In fact the alternator was making a peculiar sound which the Classic Fiat engineers pointed out and ideally should have been caught during service just 4 days back . Can anyone through light on this ?

Seriously I was lucky to reach my destination and then the alternator gave away . If the alternator fails in the middle of your journey the car will have a serious breakdown and would only need to be towed.

Inspite of a proper service and 18K spending(Please see attached bill above) just 4 days before a journey , can we still be unsure of the reliability of the car. Is it the issue with the service centre or is it an inherent property of the parts (giving the warning very late on the dashboard - like the alternator here ) ?

Do note that this is the first time I got the car serviced from Kashyap Fiat in absence of Rafiq(he was on leave) . O P Sharma I guess rarely visits Kashyap Fiat Noida now.
