Locked inside car and way out

    Dear Guys,

Searched TFI and couldnt find similar posts (Sorry if i didnt do well), so starting a conversation as part of DYK series.

This topic is based on a thread post @ TeamBHP. Where in the person claims his kid got locked inside his car and then so on. So has any thing such happened with TFIians or in other words, how FIAT cars provide safety features in this situation?

    Note:
Not blaming FIAT or any thing.
    Our of curisoity question.
Safety concern as most of you have kids.

Fiat doors should be easiest one to unlock.
It is 2 way single lever single pull.I don't see any kid above 5 yrs would fail to unlock it.

Guess there is much more than what i might have understood..May be i am wrong :confused

Getting locked inside the car can happen if
-someone presses front door opening lever, left or right, from inside. You can unlock by pulling the lever. If the lever doesnt work, only external intervention works.
-you close all the doors and press one of the buttons on the remote from outside when someone happens to be still in the car. For example, if you close all the doors and say, press the unlock button, the auto lock will happen after 3 minutes or so. Here again, you can unlock the door by pulling the lever.

In both these cases, you can manually unlock from outside using the (spare) key.
If all four door locks cannot be unlocked, you can still open the boot using the key and crawl like a rat to gain access.

Why should one allow kids to play in the car, not monitored by elders?

    1. Even after locking the car with the Key Fob, FIAT car's (at least the current crop available in India) horns work and can be unlocked from the inside by pulling the lever twice
    2. These cars do not have any boot release lever on the inside of the boot lock. With models that have a mechanical boot release lever, it would still work
    3. Models with electric boot open button, the boot open button does not work, unless the car is unlocked.
    4. My BMW 323i, that I owned in Australia, behaved like what is described in the post. Lock with key fob, horn does not work and doors cannot be opened from inside

OT : It is really disturbing that no one on that discussion is even talking about how the kid got locked inside the car. Where is this world really headed to? I mean, how can a parent be so irresponsible to lock a kid inside a car and not know about it? :A :A

Cuz these stupid parents give the keys of anything to the kids to play with and top of that they show the kids how to operate the car (opening doors, etc.) also they ask the kids to pick things up from the car when they cant get out of their lazy bums. Yea even kids are smarter these days and they learn HOW TO just from observations of parents doing it, but still giving the keys of the car to kids (to play or kids wants it :Have seen many of my friends and relatvies doing it) is NO NO. :chair:

Sorry for OT, i am done.

    @Fiatlover, Rajan Sir
    Thanks for the clarification :)

    Adios amigos :)

    Hello All

Recently I found two very helpful features in my Linea. Am not sure if these have been posted before, so here goes...

    1) Normally if you lock the car with the key fob; the indicators light up for a few seconds and then go off. If the boot of the car is open/unlocked and if you lock the car with the keyfob, then the indicators will light up for a couple of seconds and the blink twice. This should alert the person that the car is not completely locked.

    2) The rear fog lights can only be switched on if the headlights or the front fog are on. They will not switch on only on parking lights.

    Dear All,

Linea's and Punto's are having plenty of futures. Pity that these are not advertised properly and some don't even find place in owner's manual.

Couldn't understand by surprise touches that we can chance upon in our car. But here is the list of small small items which are real good ones & found in very very few cars :

Foldable Key with Remote lock. Extremely convenient as the pocket does not get bulky

Boot opening button on Remote. Extremely convenient - experiences daily while putting my Laptop in the boot.

Both ORVMs CAN move backwards also. i.e. if a car/ bike comes from behind & hits ORVM, mostly it won't break but would move
    backwards.

Follow Me Home lights. There is a feature called FOLLOW ME where the head lights can be automatically turned on from 30 sec to 210 sec after which it will automatically shut off. This is for the driver and others to carefully reach their house with good illumination

Wiper in Wash & Wipe mode. It sprays water first & then wipes with 4-5 wipes & then after a few seconds it gives 1 more wipe to wipe residual water coming down on windshied. Some of the cars have this.

Rear Sun blind, Rear AC Vents, Blue & Me
There is noise cancellation when you speak on the B&Me . So even if you have your car windows down and lot of noise coming in you still can be clearly audible at the other end with all outside noise deadened.

Did you know the Linea has got a warning lamp on the instrument cluster that lights up when any of the external lights are not working. It also displays which one may be faulty on the LCD panel. For example "CHECK STOP LIGHTS".

If any door is not closed properly or is open, & you try to start the car, the MIS dispays which Door is open & not closed properly. Very useful smar safety item

In intermittent mode (wipers) the time gap is dependent and varied according to the speed of the vehicle automatically

When you open the boot, on the right hand side, inside on the body wall, there is a small string with a loop at the end,

hanging out. In case somehting happens to the mechanical assembly/ lever to open the fuel tank opening for fueling & you can't open it, Pull this string & the fuel opening will get opened !! Smart little thingy

    Fuel cut off switch
There is a fuel cut off system in Linea wherein in any mishap or accident where sensors think its a big accident the fuel supply to car is cut off. If your car is in a drivable condition and you see that no oil or fuel is leaking. There is a switch left side below dashboard(pass airbag side). You can press it to restart fuel supply and start your car.

Linea will automatically switch of all cabin lights after 15 mins and would save your battery from dischrging which is a wonderful feature.

The interior light algorithm in Linea is as under:

When any door is opened, both the front and the rear lights come on for 3 minutes. The timer is reactivated whenever the door is opened.

When all the doors are closed, the lights stay on for a further 10 seconds with the key off. If the key is moved to key on position, the interior lights are turned off immediately.

When all the doors are closed at key-on the interior lights are immediately switched off.

When the key is removed, both the front and the rear lights are turned on and a 10 second timer is activated.
All the interior lights are turned off at the door lock control.

At the door open command, both the front and the rear lights are turned on and a 10 second timer is activated.

If the inertia(fuel cut-off) switch is operated the interior lights come on for 15 minutes.

The switching on or off takes place gradually (dimmer) with the duration of 2 seconds.

If any door or the boot is opened when the key is in off position, a time of 15 seconds is set. After this, all the interior lights are deactivated.

The stereo can be turned on without the key in the ignition. There's also has a setting in the stereo which will automatically switch it off after 20 min if one forgets to turn it off.there's a setting for that in the ICE menu. You have the option of choosing 0 min's or 20 min's. That's how long the ICE will remain switched on after switching off the car

Did you know that the fancy and nice looking wipers blades your cars have are called Aero style (flat blade) wipers. They are supposed to offer following advantages:
    Aerodynamic design which reduces noise
Joint less structure which allows the blade to be wrapped against curved windscreens Infinite number of pressure contact points ensuring smear free clean across the windscreen
Even pressure across the wiper ensuring a high quality wipe with improved cleaning action and better improved visibility

You could engage parking light for just one side by turning the indicator stalk to the respective direction with park light on.If parked on the left side i turn on only the right park lights...and vice versa.... Saves battery....

You can play the music system even when there is no key.

When front wipers are on, and you engage reverse gear, the back wiper will be switched on automatically

You get a warning tone in addition to light when you drive the car with little fuel. And it repeats on regular interval so that you don't forget.
