Is it true for Punto also? My portico has a little gradient and I always use the handbrake and also engage the 1st gear.

I feel it is better use handbrake for short-term use only even for Punto.

The Punto User Manual does state that. I generally put my car in gear when I am not using my car for more than two days time.

Is it safe to just engage the gear without the handbrake considering that my portico has a gradient of ~ 1:15.
Will this prevent the car from rolling back? I don't use the car regularly but only during the weekends.

I guess then you should look for the wooden wedge (or something similar) that Ravi uses for his Linea. I am not sure what impact hand brake will have if you are not using car for 4-5 days.

A couple of times when I engaged only the gear & not the hand brakes, still the "khat-khat" sound came when the car remained idle for more than 2 days.

There is a feature in our cars which blocks the fuel supply and thus reduces chance of fire when an unusually strong impact is detected (likely to be a collision or similar). And there is a small rubbery button near the hinges of left front door which when pressed restores the fuel supply.
(This information is also given in the manual, I see)

Guys ive tried both methods... Left the car idle with the hand breaks on which i normally do and then tot that noise comes the first time when u move the car cos of hand break... then tried the gear method no diff... its the same.. so i opted back to the normal way i park my car.... use hand break and leave the car in neutral...
I know during rains the break pads and liners get stuck to the drums but i didnt find ne difference the other way round too...

You're right, Andy. THats what I posted earlier. The "khat" noise comes even when you engage gear only without engaging handbrakes. It comes when the car remains idle for more than 1-2 days.
