Since last few days, when I start the car and when it's still idling, there is a noise - "chik, chik, chik, chik" coming. Even when I slot the car in gears, the noise continues. Am not sure if it goes away after driving a few kms, will have to check. It's a kind of noise made by those night insects. But, I felt the noise is due to monsoon and may be the resulting lack of lubes somewhere.

    Anyone else face this?

July 13th is when my Linea visited service station last. It's 22 days since that day. I'm counting for how many days my Linea remains away from service station from 13th July. The reasonable target that I set is 6 months i.e. 13th Jan 2013. Incidentally, scheduled service of 75K kms may also be due during that time. Its right now 67.5K kms on ODO and it'll take another 4-5 months to reach 75K kms.

Now, this is the challenge to Fiat, if it's car can keep herself away from the service station for 6 months or not.

For the records, my Linea is pampered. I've never let her run with even a minor issue. I've never bothered about any amount of monies to spend to keep her in good health. When TASC says to change brake pads, I also changed brake discs. When TASC says rear shock absorbers are leaked, I went for GC upgrade. When TASC says Timing belt is alright, I still changed it at 60K kms as per the schedule. Whatever TASC said, I did & paid, often did more than they asked what is required. And last but not the least, my Linea is in the most OEM status, she can be. No ICE upgrade, no headlight upgrade, No door panel opening, No sun films. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. What more can Fiat expect.

And hence this challenge to Fiat.

    Let's see.

The counting begins. It's 22 days as of today.

This noise comes out from somewhere near front right wheel and I think after the car runs a bit, the noise vanishes. Could this be due to bearings?

Fiat Wipers are top-notch. Leaves not a single trace of water. No complaints for cost for an outstanding performance ;):)

Most probably a belt - loose or making noises due to water etc. Remember brand new Indicas used to make a helluva belt noise?!

You can say that again. Best in the business, by far. Specially in the case of Punto, these wipers are unheard of in that segment. Maruti will have a heart attack if asked to supply Swift with these wipers.

Fiat seems to be losing the challenge. Since yday there in khad khad noise is coming somewhere on front right side of my Linea. The noise comes on undulation surface of the road and not on smooth road. It's as if something is lose down below or the damn link rod is the culprit. Will have to try to send her to TASS tomorrow.

Does the noise come only when turning?

Link rod can be one culprit. On the roads i drive Link rods last 20k max before their ball ends become loose returning to center position the moment you leave ball end instead of staying in the place where left. If link rod is culprit I suggest look aftermarket comes real cheap. approx 1000 for a set of two instead of fiat 1290 for one.
Instead of visiting Tass visit any FNG and ask him to check link rod it would be better than visiting TASS and wasting more than half day for a 20 min job which involves just removing front wheels and undoing link rod nut.

If the sound is like mettalic clunk than control arms needs to be checked.

Ge the Timing belt checked by some experienced mechanic in all probability TASS did not do a good job.

---------- Post added at 10:10 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:03 AM ----------

Check this thread.Even I have had this once before GC upgrade and once after it is the issue of filling the strut bearings with excess grease which will attract all kids of dust and hampers the operation of strut bearings. You will have to get some good mechanic to sort this out.

Khad Khad noise revisited my car after GC upgrade again TASS was at fault, I got it resolved by Harish.

No, the noise comes even while going straight (on the uneven road surface)

    Thanks Vijay & Sat-chit-anand.

I sent my driver with my Linea to the Tata Repair shop @ Worli just to check up. I had a brief chat with the technician. He says "strut rod" needs to be replaced for "khad khad" noise. And for the "chik, chik" cricket-like noise, he says AC belt needs to be replaced. I later spoke to the Works Manager and told him that I changed the entire suspension kit (GC upgrade) a month back at Wasan and it should be covered under warranty for atleast 6 months. I asked him if I should drop the car there or at Wasan. He suggested to drop it at Wasan if I want to cover it under warranty. So it has to be next Tuesday.

Since I would like suspension part to be covered under warranty as it was changed only a month back, I think I should drop the car at Wasan rather than a non-TASS service station.

Am going to Mahabaleshwar on Saturday.
