Na mate. The gearbox is not opened, just split from the engine when changing clutch.

Imagine the clutch as being sandwiched in between the engine and gearbox. For replacing clutch, the gearbox is just divorced from the engine and later mated with the engine again.

If the oil seal to be changed is in the gearbox then three things will need to be done :

    1. Split the gearbox from the engine.
    2. Open up the gearbox.
    3. Replace seal.

    Cheers.

P.S. If you intend to keep the Linea for a long while, have the mechanic take a look at the gearbox bearings too and replace if necessary. Perfect time to do so.

But they always told me that Gear Box need to be opened. May be they are calling it "opened" for splitting it from engine !! But then why Rs. 4,500 labor cost for it ?

For Brake Pads & Discs replacement also, the labor cost is Rs. 1,200 & I remember Italia-Linea mentioning that time that it's a simple job. All efforts/ costs of Fiat to keep cost of Spares/ Parts down are going down the drain with TASS charging such a hefty labor costs for every such item.

And what does Extended warranty cover? A mere fuel pump or an AC compressor?

I do not have time & patience to pursue such items every time. Have sent the feedback. Else I'll take it in stride, pay tomorrow & get the car back. Only grouse is my Linea ownership cost would increase with this service :(

I would strongly suggest you to read the extended warranty booklet carfully. most of the parts are covered under warranty. I will also start a new thread about extended warranty so that we have good awareness.

Its not only customer's right to get parts in warranty but also customers duty that they should not allow foul practices by fiat TASS. Dont pay up.

1200/- for a brake pad/disc change the TASS here charges only 300/- for that.

VP, If TASS is overcharging there is a scope for getting it reimbursed, or getting adjusted next time. Please follow it up with Fiat. Before that if we can get the following data it will be helpful in convincing Fiat.
The labour coast the same work in Manza or indica, the labor coast of similar work in other manufactures like Hyundai, honda and Maruti. There can be a variation in charge but it is completely illogical if it is double or more than that.

Checking a few threads to see what are the various labour costs....

In 3 or 4 different cases where Brake Pads are changed, owners reported the labor cost of Rs. 200- 300/- only. In another case of Fortune, Nerul, the cost of checking brakes is the same as what I was charged earlier & going to be charged now - Rs. 1200. If the arguement is that this is the combined cost of change of Brake Pads & Discs (which is questionable), still will the labor cost of change of brake disc be Rs. 1000 ??

I now remember about wheel alignment / balancing cost - while most of the owners report Rs. 300 for Alignment & 300 for balancing, Fortune charges Rs. 600 for balancing & 400 for alignment.

I thought labor cost was standard across all TASC's with system code no. etc

    Braking News !!!

Got to know that the Bill Amount will be Rs. 25,000+
And this is without the Painting of door. Add another 4K and the total bill would reach Rs. 29K
And I've not changed any major part except for Door paint & timing belt which costs mere Rs. 600 -700

If fiat Continue this then they have to close their shops. Whatever you have charged is unjustifiable. It is a daytime robbery. Nothing less than that:oops:
