FIAT India to support Palio, Siena & UNO through their exclusive service network

Today late afternoon I visited Oberoi FIAT service centre in sector 63, Noida to pick up a part for my TJet+. There I met their General Manager for service, Wing Commander (Retired) CN Rajagopalan. A thorough gentleman he not only showed me around the service centre but also personally escorted me to the stores to pick up the required part. What impressed me was that he took the opportunity to make the service advisors aware of the availability of the same since this part is a 'trim' part and not many are aware that the same is available from the stores of all of FIAT's authorized service centers. Unassuming customers buy this from open market often paying in excess of Rs. 1000/- over the MRP and that too for shoddy quality compared to what FIAT supplies.

Now during the tour I chanced upon a Palio and a Siena being tended to, this brought forth the age old discussion of FIPL's support for it's older models or the lack thereof. He informed me that Oberoi FIAT is regularly servicing older models such as the above two as well as the UNO. He did admit that sometimes it takes time to source parts as most of these have to be imported from Italy but FIAT has been very supportive and increasingly efficient in sourcing the same once ordered.

The entire discussion however turned on its head when Mr. Rajagopalan advised me that FIAT has been working in this direction and has decided to support the Palio, Siena and UNO models actively. This may include stocking of certain parts at the factory itself thereby reducing lead times. Per Mr. Rajagopalan, we should be seeing an advertisement from FIAT in the national dailies announcing continuation of FIAT's support for it's older models through all of the FIAT authorized service centers. We might see this as early as this week maybe even in today's broadsheets.

This is a very positive step by FIAT and will go a long way in helping the owners of the erstwhile models as well as in strengthening the credibility of the brand amongst customers (existing & prospective) at large.

Thanks for the info. FIAT is taking all right steps, but there are people who still hesitate to take even a test drive of FIAT because they simply don't want to own it due to service issues (which according to me are more or less taken care by FIAT). FIAT service has improved a lot after they re-entered India with Line/Punto.

BTW what part of you TJet+ did you pick up?

This is indeed a wonderful news, Couple of my friends who own palio now thinking of going to a different make only because the attitude of fiat towards the palios and sienas. No service centre in pune are accepting palios and sienas for servicing. Even I had to fight twice to get my palio serviced.

If this really happens, then i am sure 1000's of classic FIAT owners will recommend FIAT to their known people.

Ideally, FIAT thru its dealers should hold owners meet at every city, capture weekends in the malls, road shows etc to increase their visibility and announcing the continued commitment to serve its customers !

OT : Lately bangalore has seen an increase in Linea and Punto cars

Good news indeed. But I will have to say at least @ Hyson motors Kochi they are accepting my palio for servicing & repair from the start. Also this could be to the fact that most of their staff came from RF Motors (erstwhile Tata-Fiat Service Center) and so they had experienced mechanics in handling palio. I recently got the shock absorbers changed with the OE parts (Cofap make) but it took almost 2 months from them to source the parts with repeated follow ups from my side. In terms of service quality & experience, at least w.r.t to my palio, it is deteriorating (off-topic and relevant to discussion in service centre section)

To my knowledge, Palios are accepted for service in Chennai (both at Ramkay and RDC) from the beginning. But the time to get the spares for Palios is very high. Ramkay Chennai told me that they can get any part but they would need at least 15 days to procure it.

I believe its the same with all the Bangalore SCs also! problem lies with parts delay and that is where Fiat needs to fix the problem.

Please make parts for Palio/Siena/Uno available over the counter. That is all.
