Today late afternoon I visited Oberoi FIAT service centre in sector 63, Noida to pick up a part for my TJet+. There I met their General Manager for service, Wing Commander (Retired) CN Rajagopalan. A thorough gentleman he not only showed me around the service centre but also personally escorted me to the stores to pick up the required part. What impressed me was that he took the opportunity to make the service advisors aware of the availability of the same since this part is a 'trim' part and not many are aware that the same is available from the stores of all of FIAT's authorized service centers. Unassuming customers buy this from open market often paying in excess of Rs. 1000/- over the MRP and that too for shoddy quality compared to what FIAT supplies. Now during the tour I chanced upon a Palio and a Siena being tended to, this brought forth the age old discussion of FIPL's support for it's older models or the lack thereof. He informed me that Oberoi FIAT is regularly servicing older models such as the above two as well as the UNO. He did admit that sometimes it takes time to source parts as most of these have to be imported from Italy but FIAT has been very supportive and increasingly efficient in sourcing the same once ordered. The entire discussion however turned on its head when Mr. Rajagopalan advised me that FIAT has been working in this direction and has decided to support the Palio, Siena and UNO models actively. This may include stocking of certain parts at the factory itself thereby reducing lead times. Per Mr. Rajagopalan, we should be seeing an advertisement from FIAT in the national dailies announcing continuation of FIAT's support for it's older models through all of the FIAT authorized service centers. We might see this as early as this week maybe even in today's broadsheets. This is a very positive step by FIAT and will go a long way in helping the owners of the erstwhile models as well as in strengthening the credibility of the brand amongst customers (existing & prospective) at large.
