Linea’s sales is hanging around 900-1000 unit but Punto’s sales was severally affected due to Beat, Polo and Figo. These cars have created lot of trouble for Punto.
Though Punto is segment above from Figo and Beat but Fiat India has not been able to increase the volumes with 10 to 12 model option of Punto.I think Fiat should consider to bring the base model of 90hp Punto, under 5.50 lac.

i agree to vinay rathore. Punto 90 HP is beyond budget of most people. why shud it be exclusive to only a small section of people? it shud reach out to the masses. or else they will get rotten in Fiat store house. Punto Active 90 hp at 5 lakhs makes it more affordable and masses will take Fiat seriously. right now it has a image of a expensive car. i know it will never happen but Fiat is loosing the trick here. most of the other companies keep bringing down the price as new varients. Fiat has to change its image as the a affordable and reliable company just like the Premier Padmini was which everybody wanted to buy it.

How many of the common people go around and ask for the power of the engine before buying it? May be they should bring down a version sans power windows and everything to compete with the likes of Figo, Beat etc. That way you can draw crowd to the showroom and make them buy the expensive version. But to me Fiat isn't trying to do that with Punto and that's why they are working on the small car. Yesterday I had a chance to test drive few Maruti cars, There cars are plain boring to me. All the car's dashboards looks like decade old and still people buy it and people complain about plastic quality in Punto - What the heck man. There's only one thing Fiat should do now - Aggressive marketing highlighting the finesse of the vehicles sold here, which they don't do for reasons only known to them.

Just whilst I was typing this thread I got a call from Fiat, Pune inquiring about when do I want my test drive to be arranged. That's a good sign to me at least.

Nevertheless I like to be exclusive amongst those 100's of Swifts & i20's swarming the Indian roads everyday.

ya of course even if Punto has power steering and AC only with a price tag of 4.5 -5 lakhs, it shud draw in more people to the showoom. it will be able to connect more with people as a affordable car rather than a premium car only.

T-Jet was never going to contribute to the sales numbers significantly.

In Pune, around 20-25 cars have been booked since launch.

amogh, I agree, T-jet will not give more count, but if Fiat is able to sell ~400 T-Jet (out of total 1000 with so many models), I am sure it make sense for Fiat to get rid of 1.4 FIRE from Linea all model and put T-Jet engine for all. This might give them good numbers in future.

This was first upgrade for Linea, and looks hit the right impact. Somehow Punto's multiple upgrades/refresh, Fiat is not able to get much customers for it in fierce competitive hatchback market.
Since, 1.2 Petrol didn't make much impact on Punto's sales, I feel Fiat should remove 1.2L from Punto, just keep 1.4L in all versions. Reduce the variants and so confusion. Put T-Jet in E-Pack of Punto as well. Let it be sell bit less but it will keep its segment clear for buyers.
Concentrate volume from the planned small car. Once any car starts making volume, Punto will also catch-up.

I have a different take on this. Fiat must get rid of 1.4 FIRE Punto and plonk the 1.2 in the 3.5-5 lakh category. Why? the competition is using 1.2l as the stock option and Fiat must do the same. 1.4 Tjet Punto should be positioned as a niche hatchback. The 90HP has failed to do the magic trick due to the cost. Have a look at the competition and how it is learning to provide features provided by Punto as "segment first". Both Figo and i10 have provided similar features at lower costs.

In diesel option, keeping 90hp as niche option is no more the option with Vista 90hp on heels. Fiat must keep 1.4TJet alone as niche and cut prices on 1.2L and 1.3L. Many options on 1.3 need to be pruned with FGT coming to lower than Swift price range and VGT between Swift, Ritz and Figo.

IMHO, a drastic price revision for Punto is the only way to bolster the sales. I think Linea is going to remain at 1K +_ 100 units. 2011 must be the year for Fiat to consolidate and prepare for arrival of multiair fitted models. Without these price corrections, I don't see any dramatic changes in Fiat sales charts.

    Break-up

    • Linea : 700
      Punto : 1300
      Palio : 25
      500 : 0

I was assuming Linea to be 1300.

Ha ha.. Don’t you think its confusing a lot..
    1.2,1.4.,1.4T-Jet,
    1.3Turbo diesel, 1.3VGT
    And now Multiair 900cc Engine.
    Fiat, please apply KISS formula.
