I don't think 1.2 new variants will bring any further excitment in Fiat India' disappointing sales, because of a very mediocre 1.2 engine (please 1.2 owners forgive me), if you compare it with 1.2 engines duing duty in Ritz's,Beat's,Figo's,i20's and even just launched Micra. Also, due to extra kilos Punto carries with it may also make it bit lethargic for city driving.
I think they should come up with a new 1.2 engine, or tune up the exiting one.

Drive the Punto 1.2 to know more.
It drives very well in the city. Its no scorcher for sure....but peak torque sets in very early & that makes is a breeze to drive in city conditions (no need of frequent gearshifts). I was surprised when I drove it...its anything but sluggish.

I drove it, infact went on along drive before I decided upon 1.4. Without any doubt it's good to drive, I am trying to compare it with other 1.2 petrol heads we have in market, thats why I said we need to get more from it....

its hard to understand why Fiat sales is not picking up. everything is improving. car is a beauty. people want to try all other inferior cars. i guess it will take some more time for people to really believe in Fiat and its superior quality. And Fiat on there part shud iron out all the niggling problems.

guys just had a chance to drive punto 1.2 emotion. its just mind blowing engine. Punto is a real gem of a car. any comment which tells Punto 1.2 to be a sluggish car is a totally biased and wrong statement. 1.2 is a fun to drive car. Pick -up is excellent even with AC on. Engine sound is absolutely a delight. i wonder how much fun 1.4 must be. any one who is having second thought about 1.2 , go have a Test Drive and feel the beauty of the car and engine.
Well done Fiat, well done Punto 1.2 :clap

In fact I preferred the driveability of 1.2 over 1.4. The 1.4 drives good only at higher RPMs.
Also the engine is one of the smoothest - without doubt :up

Sales will pick up once people beyond cities like Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore & Cochin realise that Fiat is a force to reckon with. It'll happen soon.

Its tough to maintain the sales figs consistently....increasing it comes later. Especially in view of so much of new competition creeping every 3 months. Fighting out competition is a big task :boxer

When I visited the Showroom on Sarjapur road in mid May, they mentioned that they had bookings of close to 25 in their showroom and in other showrooms it was around 50. He mentioned that the sales had picked up. Might be due to the handsome raise given across companies this year :)
I believe Fiat still has to build the brand value in terms of visibility. Look at the Polo ads doing the rounds. They have everyone's attention. My family had insisted 'Why not Polo, hyundai ?' Similar to 'das auto', fiat should come up with something to drive home the 'italian' factor !
