Punto will never be able to sell 10,000 numbers in a month. There is no point trying hypothetically to convert Punto into light-weight low-cost entry-level hatch in theory.

In the segment that Punto is in, the market leader i20 sells about 4000-4500 units p.m. And this is achieved with its decade-old performance in service & other areas without any of the glaringly negative items. With repeated mistakes multiple times in past, even if it sells 2000 Punto's, Fiat would consider it a huge success.

It depends what you meant by performance. If you are talking about crowded city tarffic, yes TDCi will perform better, but then you must know Punto's FE is far superior to Figo (In city the diff. in FE is ~3KMPL).
If you take same engine to highways, the situation changes and MJD will perform much better than TDCi.

So, in my opinion, Fiat has tuned engine for FE as well as highway performance. The problem is, most of the TD happens in city for 4-5 or max 10 KM. So one feel Punto is sluggish. And people (read non-fiat owners) wants these things to be highlighted, to keep their buy look convincing. Because in heart everybody loves Fiats.

Just believe in yourself, Punto/Lineas are on of the best cars available at its price. Fiat's history is such, we doubt its future sometimes (when we are not driving  ).

Tata's reputation, and rightly so, is not good in passenger car segment. Tata was not interested earlier as their buyers were from different segment of society. But now Tata's car profile is also changing and they would also like to see the change in service experience of its new customers. So Tata must be equally worried as Fiat. I am sure they have a better future together. :up

Biggest difference : TDCi is a 4 cylinder 8 valve engine (SOHC) The 1.3 MJD is a 4 cylinder 16 valve engine (DOHC)

Anyone who knows a thing or two about engines will tell you that DOHC is better than SOHC

The driveability is better because SOHC's have a better lower end torque for the same engine capacity when compared to a DOHC. But that's about it. And please remember : the TDCI is 1399 cc whereas the MJD is 1248 cc

Also "tuning" is a major factor / contributor when it comes to performance.

And about FE : I completely disagree : If I have to go by the Figo FE figures, they are nowhere as close to those of the Punto.

Anyway : I think we are going wayyyy :eek:fftopic here.

    Variabt - June - July
    Linea - 850 - 900
    Punto - 1273 - 1401
    Palio - 14 - 0
    500 - 0 - 0

Approx 1500 for Punto looks decent to me. Even with so much competition, it has improved the sales number.
Even Linea - approx 100, I would say is decent. With T-Jet it should be approx 1200.
If Fiat should sell ~1000 Palio also. Its decent car. Just reduce the cost and see how market takes it. Recent offer seems to be success, and they have 750+ bookings.

i totally agree with ravi. Punto & Linea are selling in decent numbers. Palio shud be refreshed with lower price tags. if Uno comes to india, it can complement the Palio.
