Fiat to launch Jeep range by year-end

Italian car-maker Fiat plans to launch the Jeep SUV brand in India by the end of this calendar year through a separate dealership network.

Jeep is a brand from Chrysler, in which Fiat holds a majority stake (over 61 per cent).
Fiat will launch the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Wrangler, both high-end sports utility vehicles during the last quarter of the calendar year.

Jeep will initially be imported from Detroit (the home of Chrysler), before local production is considered, said Nagesh Basavanhalli, President and Managing Director, Fiat Chrysler India Operations. “We are watching the rupee behaviour and will take an appropriate decision on the product’s pricing,” said Basavanahalli, addressing a press conference.
Given the niche nature of the product, Fiat will set up a separate showroom for the Jeep brand. Dealerships will initially come up in the top 10 Indian cities.

Fiat has promised to launch nine (new or refurbished) models in the country by 2016. There will be two more Jeep products, four Fiat models and one from Abarth, another group company.

Fiat has a manufacturing plant in Ranjangaon, Pune, and 63 showrooms in the country selling the Linea and Punto models. Last year, Fiat sold 12,000 cars, down from 16,000 and 24,000 in the previous years.

    Hi All,

Saw this on motorbeam - here is the link - Fiat India Starts Testing 1.6-Multijet Diesel Engine In Linea Facelift | MotorBeam – Indian Car Bike News & Reviews. Lets hope this is true soon. :)

"The facelifted Fiat Linea is already on sale in certain parts of the world and now our sources inform us that the company has started testing the new Linea with the 1.6-litre Multijet diesel engine in India. The vehicle will soon be all over Pune streets as road testing operations have commenced. So what happens to the current Linea. Fiat will continue to sell the current Linea with the same set of engines. The vehicle might be offered in lower trims only. The new Linea will get the much awaited 1.6-litre Multijet diesel engine which produces 105 BHP of power and 290 Nm of torque. The 1.6-litre Multijet 2 diesel engine produces the same power output but an additional 30 Nm of torque (320 Nm). We are hoping Fiat gives the Linea the 1.6-litre Multijet 2 diesel engine in India as it is not only faster (0-100 km/hr in less than 11.5 seconds) but is more frugal too."

That's a big fact. A friend of mine had to replace his i10's front bonnet and bumper and the service centre was able to do it within 2 days for him. Don't want to comment about FIAT, You know.

I saw a linea on chakan -nashik road last week with the front and back bumpers covered! could not click any photos. Also If am not mistaken the position of the rear number plates was on the boot and not near the bumper. Hope this is indeed the new linea!
