    I see this way.

If Fiat goes ahead and extends the support to the existing Palio owners, that will send positive signal to them as well as the market and the reputation of Fiat. Regardless of what was asked and what Mr. Enrico has said, the fact is that FASS's are reluctant to take Palio for servicing (at least in Chennai). This is keeping the customers of Palio worried about the spares/service.

Regarding the reference to Maruti, I believe Maruti has never said that it is challenging to service older generation 800's and they would do their best. That is one simple reason for their reliability.

I was present during the interaction on the day of inauguration of Vecto Motors. Enrico did not mince his words. He did not play the role of a diplomat. He was frank. One need not read between the lines. He wants the owners of the previous generation FIATs to upgrade to the new generation FIATs. Period. How far that will help FIAT in future, is a million dollar [or million Euro for Enrico!] question, the answer to which will be known only in the future!

The Key factor for any automobile brand to grow is the availability of spares and service (after sales service) that it offers it is this which will draw the attention and trust of exisitng owners and new owners as well. It should not be a buy and buy (exchange old for new) relationship it should be a buy and served well in long term to buy relationship which is indeed required to build the brand all over.

Fiat sets up stockyard facility at Ranjangaon
Mumbai/ Pune March 5, 2013 Last Updated at 20:49 IST

FIAT Group Automobiles India Private Limited (FGAIPL), subsidiary of Italian auto major Fiat has set up a stockyard facility at Ranjangaon near Pune. The stockyard has the capacity to house 2000 cars. The stockyard also comprises of a separate loading area to allow loading of cars into car carrier trailors.

The stockyard, designed and constructed by FIAT's logistics partner Mercurio Pallia, is spread across a area of 12 acres within the Ranjangaon Industrial premises and in close proximity to FIAT's manufacturing plant. However, company has not disclosed any investment details for this facility.

Currently, the stockyard will cater to the incumbent Fiat Linea and Fiat Punto models.

In due course of time it will store cars from the FIAT and the Chrysler group as and when they are introduced in the Indian market.

Speaking on the occasion, Enrico Atanasio, MD, FIAT Group Automobiles Pvt. Ltd, said, "The FIAT Group views India as a key strategic market and one which will soon be amongst the top five automobile markets in the world. We are confident that India will be a driving force in terms of volumes for the group and therefore, the development of this stockyard in association with Mercurio Pallia, our logistics partner will enable us to bridge the demand-supply gap and put us in a strong position to achieve our objectives."

Robert Decrick, head, SCM, APAC FIAT Chrysler added, "The development of this stockyard is in alignment with the Group's strategy to replicate its' global operational standards. Our objective is to develop India as a global export hub and this stockyard is a stepping stone towards accomplishing it."

Fiat India is also expanding its own dealership network by appointing 110 new dealers by end of June 2013. It has a target of appointing 170 dealers by the end of December 2013. Along with this, now, Fiat eyes Indian SUV market and will launch a new model 'Wrangler' and 'Cherokee' Jeep brands by October in India. This will compete with Land Rover and Audi Q7. It will also launch a passenger car Punto Abarth by June 2013.

The company will distribute Fiat and Jeep vehicles in India through an independent dealer network.

By observing Indian car sales, its is very difficult for all car manufactures to maintain sales. I heard Tata has introduced buy back scheme for Indigo, it is very new concept for Indian buyers. Fiat should introduce such scheme to give confidence for typical indian mentality about resale. Here people don't buy cars according to their choices but they buy those machines which will give them good resale after 3/4/5 years.
I feel its Fiat's bad luck that car industry is going from slow down when they are doing many things like upcoming launches, new showroom/service center opening etc.

I guess global players like FIAT look into the future and their strategies are well researched. Slow downs are temporary -for a couple of years max, but the future is promising. India and China are a volumes market, which are the growth drivers

@ Multijetter, It's Good Luck for FIAT that industry is seeing a slowdown now. Right time to built the infrastructure and be ready when the industry is back to growth path. FIAT will not get the right opportunity than this, to comeback in India market. They need to be more proactive to deal Service and spare part issues along with what they are doing now.
