Want foot falls into fiat showroom?? Get celebs like Sachin, MS Dhoni, AR Rahman , Amithab or anyone who people love as a kickass brand ambassador (common to india) -( even sunny leone would do just fine :joyful: ) ...
What do they have for avventura , some random polish guys riding in the avventura.. not inspiring

i would say the awful mobilio advert was a marketing tactic..... it turned attention for its wackyness

It is not as complex the 'dry' clutches and there are other variants as well. It is actually a Borg-Warner system with Magnet Marelli control and actuation unit. AMT gives the option to go manual and is cheaper as you said. DDCT is for better performance applications and higher torque with lower complexity, but not as cheap. Maruti apparently explored the option along with others and came to the conclusion of using AMT, for cost and complexity and FE benefit reasons. Infact the AMT imports and demands from industry have risen so much that they are looking at setting up a manufacturing JV for these units. For cars like Punto or Linea (the new ones) the DDCT could be a viable option.
The Viaggio and Dart are also using the DDCT.

The Magneti Marelli-Maruti JV to produce amt-s in Manesar is (soon? already?) coming on-stream. This I can confirm, since I live in Gurgaon.

Don't you feel ddct transmissions may prove troublesome in our road/traffic and temperature conditions? Am thinking especially of clutch burnout issues. VW/Skoda dsg boxes sound like they have a high rate of issues and failure, here.

The supply of amt-s to Tata and Maruti is/will very soon pickup, by the many thousand every month. Pretty much every small Tata and Maruti will have them as option soon.

Do you think that makes it a no-go for the Fiats, 'a downmarket image' thing? My own sense is that they should steer clear of the DDCT, and go amt even for the Linea diesel and the Evo/Avventura t-jets. Just integrate them into the marketing/branding message in a careful way....there need not be a 'downmarket image' problem at all, given the price advantage of several lakhs vis-a-vis even the Honda cvt let alone the VW/Skoda dsg? Though word is that Ford will be offering a ddct on the Figo Aspire petrol, albeit probably without a 'manual' mode?

Forget AMT and DDCT transmissions, let Fiat first work around on the terrible gear box that we have currently in the market.

@gaurav 2017 they are bringing these cars to India.Fiat has been laggard in all the fields and they will remain one, they never understand need of the hour.

@prabhjot, the importance of DDCT not just for feature but as a necessity is what I feel. Its a simplified version of some very complex DSG type gearboxes. Some complex ones are already implemented by Fiat already in US and Europe too perhaps. The DDCT as one report says is 'nascent' which means it probably will go multiple changes and iterations before a more refined or a cheaper version could be seen as viable for the Indian market. Fiat could infact highlight and market this offering well and offer good warranties on transmissions to overcome some resistance.

DSG gearbox failures were attributed to 'wrong spec' oil by VW or Skoda sometime back. They had to use a more conventional option for these regions to avoid the failures. Report over here.

Ah but the S Cross will still sell only minutely compared to the 500X and the Renegade, Duster, Captur, Cactus etc in Europe, good though it surely is, as is the new Vitara, as will be the new XAlpha small suv. Suzuki has an old, very symbiotic tie-up with Fiat in Europe too, remember the SX4/Sedici, the ORIGINAL european small crossover, along with the Panda 4x4? With the mjd-s? The S Cross is much cheaper too, i believe, that has to mean a lot in Europe's recessionary times.

The buyers for a 500X or a Renegade say at 15-16 lakhs (at least) will likely be very different to the A Cross (9-12 lakhs?) buyers here. And also very minute in their numbers!

Which is why, one suspects, no 500X or Renegade till 2018 at least in India? The product launch plan for India says 'new Avventura' in late 2016, Jeep Grand Cherokee (local assembly), Jeep C-Suv (localized for exports too), and 'new Punto' in 2017 + 'new Grand Sienna in 2017'. No mention of either the Reneagde or the 500X, sadly. I can see why: these cars will be seen as too small and too expensive, not 'macho enough' etc.

Sad, if true. Let's see. We'll get to know enough only at the AutoExpo from Jeep and Fiat, hopefully. Meanwhile, there are sourced and quoted rumours/reports floating around about a Jeep version also for exports of the 'New Avventura'/b-cuv, but none suggest the arrival of the 500X foreseeably.

Understandable, in a way, as they are meant by design and engineering and therefore cost for Europe, Turkey+MEast, the US, Brazil/LatAm, and of course China, hardly for 'emerging markets' like ours or like say Indonesia. For us and for Brazil there is another, cheaper 'b-cuv' due in 2016.

Who knows, it's not mentioned in the plan, that's for sure. We'll hopefully get answers to this and several other Jeep and Fiat angst-y doubts and speculations only at the AutoExpo in feb 2016, or so one bets?!
