Fiat Aegea Spotted Undisguised: Could be the Linea Replacement for India!

    Updated on 07 Sep 2015 19 : 50 IST | By Abhijeet Singh Rathore

Fiat Aegea, a C-segment sedan, that the manufacturer first revealed in the Istanbul Motor Show (in early 2015) has been spied undisguised. The snapped vehicle seems to be in near production stage. It could possibly be the Linea replacement for India, though FCA India has not confirmed such possibility, at least for next one year. The manufacture plans to sell it in 40 countries and at initial stage, will only make it in left hand drive setup.

The spied car is very near to the concept showcased earlier this year at the Istanbul Motor Show. It showcases the same single gaping grille converging into the sleek headlamps. The sides feature bold shoulder line and large alloy wheels. While the pincer-ish tail lamps are joined by a chrome garnish and sit on a decently designed boot.

Power will be coming from Fiat?s Multijet II diesel engine available in two options, while there will be two petrol motors to choose from. The power output of these engines is expected to lie between 94 bhp to 118 bhp band. The diesel motor is touted to produce over 24 kmpl of mileage.

It features the latest interiors from Fiat, reminiscence of its premium offering like the 500x. The cockpit stays true to the retro style that the manufacturer is known for. The central console will feature a touchscreen medianav system.

Dimension-wise, Aegea is 4500 mm long, 1750 mm wide, 1480 mm tall and gets a wheelbase of 2640 mm. To give you an idea, Maruti Ciaz is 4490 mm long, 1730 mm wide, 1485 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2650 mm. It is only ahead in height and wheelbase, so it could act as a close competitor in terms of dimensions.

As usual from FCA, a beautiful early-promotional video for the Fiat Aegea sedan, due to be more or less formally launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in ten days' time, alongwith the Alfa Romeo Giulia, all-new cutting-edge engines, the facelifted and interior-improved Fiat 500, and likely heavily faceifted ALfa Romeo Giulietta and/or Mito.

The Aegea hatchback and SW will be shown at the Geneva Show next year, apparently.

So far, the indications, hints etc are ALL, to the extent that my 'research' can make out, that, in 2017/2018: India will get the Aegea sedan to replace the Linea, and (a version of) the Aegea hatch, perhaps only in cross(over) form, to replace the Punto/Avventura?

Provided the difficult economics of their localization can be worked out, since it depends not at all on the Indian-market demand for these cars, such as that will be then, but instead on the export numbers these Indian-made cars can be assured of, which will obviously have to be very large indeed (unlike with the current Indian rhd Linea and Punto which have never had much export demand at all from the few large rhd markets in the world.) Hopefully, FCA India will figure on, and be able to export even left-hand-drive Aegea project-based cars, in which case: perhaps the economics of investment for offering these cars for the Indian car bazaar would surely make sense?

PS: the car's beautiful indeed, but a sort-of Italian-stylised version of Germanic design, rather than anything chic, warm, hot, etc. Well, at least it doesn't have Japanese-styling, or Korean attempts at copying/pirating 'European' styling. I want the 500X, FCA India, instead, thank you kindly, and/or the Jeep Renegade too!

But seriously, FCA would IMO be probably well-advised to not bother with the Aegea lower-priced models and instead focus on the premium crossover space with the Renegade, the 500X, a 'New Avventura', and of course the Jeep C-Suv, which, very conveniently, will be easier to export to rhd markets out of India, too, no FCA/Mr. Flynn?

    from the article

1, Aegea will only be produced in Turkey ,,,,,,, so ever dreaming of Aegea in India will be dream only ,,,, although they will export in 40 countries ., We all know how much fiat is dedicated here and export cars have higher prices.

    2. A total of 580,000 vehicles will be made as compact sedans, while the remaining 700,000 vehicles will be produced as hatchbacks (HB) and station wagons (SW).

3, The Aegea will hit the roads in November with its B and C segments with assertive prices and new properties.

The rear of Fiat Egea in Turkey: dramatic, sculptural, without any vulgar design short-cuts either. The Italians have again managed to make a budget-car by European standards stand out for (subtle-yet-emphatic) style!

The Aegea is likely to be the same as the 'new Grand Sienna' planned for Brazil AND for India too. From what one can make out from brazilian and italian autosites: the new Palio=new Punto=Aegea hatchback (version thereof). And the 'new grand Sienna'='Linea replacement'='Aegea sedan'.

i.e., The Aegea sedan, hatch as well as most likely the crossover version of the hatch WILL indeed be the 'new Avventura, punto and grand sienna' in the fca product plan for India, announced last year, and so far BEING adhered-to, just like the product plans for Brazil, the US and Europe are too, albeit with a delay of a few months for some models. 2017 and 2018, one supposes.

A comprehensive set of photographs of the Egea (christened 'Tipo' outside Turkey), and especially its interiors.

The whole thing oozes a certain restrainedly handsome and mature quality: seems sophisticated and polished, without being too-expensive or too banal or too-gimmicky. Good stuff from Fiat. The prices should be really ultra-competitive, given its high-quality but low-cost production-base in turkey.....and hopefully in 2017, India+Brazil!
