Wow, @prabhot, are you applying for an opening there as the FCA ambassador to India? Suddenly FCA looks like the place to be. But then I'm not an Engineer, Designer or Italian/American.

Jokes apart, that is very nice to see. Seeing all those British car companies like Jensen shutdown makes me sad. But seeing FCA doing so well is refreshing.

This is some achievement by the Marchionne/Elkann-led FCA, a testament to the 'ethicality' of their steward-ship of the firm, its brands, its workers/unions, plants, local governments etc. To the extent that such ethicality is even possible to attribute to giant multi-national corporations. I believe it is, to a degree, and it has everything to do with the very OLD-money, very long-term, almost patrician quality of its family-ownership, rather similar to the Tata-s, actually.

This is a video of the Fiat 500X passing the IHS 'Top Safety Pick+' threshold, which is in its small overlap front crash criteria even tougher to pass than the Euro NCAP 5 star rating.

AFAIK: all FCA vehicles from all brands in the US and in Europe rate previous Euro NCAP 5 star and current one 4 star AT LEAST, as also the American IHS safety rating of Top Safety Pick or indeed better, as in the case of the 500X. Some versions of the open top/removable-door JEEP Wrangler are, for obvious reasons, not counted as exactly the safest of safety picks.

    http://www.allpar.com/news/index.php/2015/12/more-praise-for-jeeps-and-durango-30779

Awards and accolades for the Jeep reneagde in the UK as 'Best 4X4', and for the Jeep Grand Cherokee in the USA for the best pukka 5-seat suv, and for the Dodge Durango for being the best 7-seat suv in the US market, which is to say the world's biggest and most competitive market for large and larger suv-s.

    More accolades:

Awards and accolades and high-praise mean little in themselves, just the judgment of some more or less reputed and reputable public/media outlets.

Still, compared to the missing yet very deserved accolades in india for Fiats for the mjd and t-jet engines....?

@prabhjot Point noted but then nobody is getting accolades for the MJD or the Punto in the trim that is sold in India is it? Let them bring in the Jeeps and then we will see.

p.s. Slick shifting gear box is something we do not have either.

    http://www.allpar.com/news/2016/04/pop-mechanics-ram-beats-ford-chevy-31622

RAM Trumps, as it were :), Ford and Chevy let alone Toyota and Nissan at the pickup truck stakes.

Popular Mechanics is the famous, historic and still-very reputable and sophisticated magazines for all things 'mechanical' and DIY. i.e., this is something of an 'honour' for FCA.

Do remember that many/most Ram pickups in the usa market (esp private sales), as with the best-selling Ford f-150 etc, are actually luxury 'cars' if that makes sense: they sell at prices and margins often above or equal-to many/most Mercedes, Porsches, Maserati-s, BMW-s, Lexus-es and Audis.

Another award of some prestige in the usa, for the interiors of the fabulous, luxurious new minivan (a genre of vehicle invented by Chrysler corp and dominated sales-wise by them for 15-20 years in the usa): the pacifica.

The Dodge Challenger, Charger, esp with Hellcat 707hp v8 engine, the Fiat 500, the Wrangler and the Jeep Grand Cherokee have been found, not for the first time, to among the very 'best loved' car sub-brands or nameplates in the usa. (Strategic Vision)

Interesting how well FIAT performs on depreciation rates in the used-car market in Britain.

    http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/advice/car-values-top-13-car-brands-hold-their-value-best

As the reliability index posted earlier in this thread/forum shows

    (a) there are wild disagreements in the different countries' surveys, even keeping the survey organization constant, which is strange indeed given that the cars are usually in europe made in the very same plants and are identical in nearly everyway. Biases and 'subjective brand perception' factors dominate all such ostensibly objective surveys AND the common-hearsay that relies on and quotes them.

As FIAT owners in India can well attest: on average our experiences at reliability and aftersales are at considerable skew from the common, endlessly repeating, perceptions and 'reputation.'

    (b) German brands show great survey results in some cases and consistently awful ones (reliability, aftersales, depreciation) in others, depending on the country and the segment

    (c) In Europe, the Japanese+Korean brands remain 'discount' ones, nevermind their ostensible high reliability and 'quality' claims/reputations: both when new and when used. In the usa and China too, often barring one or 2 exceptions (some Honda and Toyota models.)
