FiatChrysler is now the no.1 car maker in Canada, by sales, mainly via SUVs, pickup trucks, Minivans and the new Chrysler 200 sedan.

Car sales are picking up smartly now in Italy, the bottom of recessionary market has been reached and a rebound is underway, albeit off a much lower base, Fiat-brand sales up 10%, the Jeep Renegade and the new-this-month 500X , its platform mate, off to brilliant starts.

I , too, follow FCAcorporate Twitter handle and their tweets regarding increasing sales in US and other markets are encouraging.

Feels good for a brand as a whole. Let's hope India too, soon join their growth trajectory

For the UK: for the whole year 2014, total FCA sales up 11%, marketshare up.
For China: up, over 2014, 40+%, localized Jeep manufacture begins late 2015, sales will rocket?
    For Japan: up 10%
    For Australia: up 30+%
For Spain: huge gains, Fiat and Jeep, marketshare up a lot
Germany: up quite a bit, the 500, 500L are segment leaders, Jeep selling very well.

Down 10 odd % over the year in Turkey (overall economic slowdown)

FCA is for now mainly a premium-import car seller in Asia-Pac, which as we know is totally dominated by the Japanese and Koreans. And yet their Asia-Pac profits are in the tens of millions of dollars, including India. They are now offering locally made Fiat Viaggio-s and Ottimo-s in China, their first locally-made offerings in what is by far the biggest car market in the world. Those cars do ok, nothing great, but remember China has at least 12-15 strong competitors. Unlike India, which resembles ASEAN more: 3-4 Japs=Koreans totally dominate. Local manufacture of Jeeps in China, and in India, will see huge sales and profits increases in Asia-Pac. They are also by 2018 going to locally manufacture the Chrysler 200 and the 500X in China.

In Turkey, I believe the Linea is the no 1, bestselling car, the full Fiat model range is available, and many including vans are locally made. Turkey is a major export base for some Fiat models, into Europe and now even into the US.

It seems from their avowed plans and from contextual knowledge that: (a) In APAC: Jeep is what they will focus on and use, alongwith other charismatic-to-Chinese cars like the Fiat 500, 500X and Chrysler 300, etc (b) In China, Jeep will be supplemented by the new Alfa Romeo cars, first sedan will be displayed in June 2015 (c) Other than in Australia, Japan, Korea and China, they will not be really pushing Fiat branded cars in ASEAN.

i.e., 'Fiat' is not their focal point for Asia-Pac. Except India, where it is, but unsuccessfully, which is why they're focussed on the Jeep launch (presumably, from all one can make out) instead.

What they do about the Fiat brand and its cars here, given that the 500 series of cars have no real market here at the elevated prices they command everywhere they sell.....is what we keep discussing, over and over and over!;)

what about the Fiat dealers who invested their money to come up with a FIAT dealership, are they going to survive in India or again the history will be repeated ?
with the current sales numbers of 2 models from fiat are they reached to break even at least ?
or FCA is taking profits from india and not investing here ?

I think it is Mr Marchionne's personal mission to prove success with Chrysler that is driving the sales success story, recent quality troubles notwithstanding.
I see some problems for auto companies, especially German brands in the China market in the near future. China's growth numbers are slowing down palpably, and the impact on large discretionary purchases such as cars would be immediate. This is more a problem for international investors in China, than the Chinese themselves, especially the Chinese govt, who would rather try to keep things a bit cool to avert systemic financial problems.

yup, which is another reason that even in China, where FCA local manufacture has only just begun, the focus is on the premium brands and models: Jeep, Alfa, Maserati, Ferrari, and some charismatic Fiats (500, 500X) and Chryslers (200, 300), and not the more down-to-earth, mass market Fiat models. Even the Viaggio and Ottimo are, if you think relative to India, are fairly 'premium', and are China-specials.
