    I own a Punto MJD - 2011 - done ~54k kms.
Couple of months back, the service center advised me a clutch kit replacement (~53k kms).He said driving for 1-2k more kms more should not be a problem.

I have driven 1k kms since then. Since the last week or so, the pick up of my Punto has gone down drastically. Even when i reach 3000 rpm, the car is very sluggish. Also, the engine noise has gone up (especially the grinding noise, which you generally get when you are on higher gear and lower speed).

About 90% of my car usage is city driving (Mumbai).

    My doubts:
    - Is 53k a decent number for clutch replacement. I have heard guys replacing clutch kits even at 30k kms and I have read people driving without clutch replacement till about 100k kms also. The Fiat service center guy told my anything above 45k is a decent number.
    - Does a faulty clutch affect the performance of the car so much that a car like Punto struggles to climb up on a medium sloped road with AC on ?
    - Does the turbo get affected by a faulty clutch ? Or is it disabled by the drive mechanism automatically after the clutch kit becomes faulty, to avoid further damage ?

I am looking to get this done from a local (but trusted and well known) car mechanic, he has quoted 5.7k for the clutch kit+bearings plus 2.5k as labor charge. Is this reasonable ?
Getting this done from Car Clinic (Laxmi In. Estate, Andheri-W, Mumbai). Any reviews / feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Vishal

Yes, a fautly clutch can affect performance and looks like it is time for you to replace.

Is 53k a decent number for clutch replacement.?
There is no strict mileage for clutch replacement, however FASS sometimes recommend to replace after 45k. However, the decision is to be taken based on the wear.
Usage in B2B traffic, hilly places and driving style has effect on the clutch life. 53K is not a premature clutch failure, you need to go for it.

my clutch was replaced at 55k due to folliwings symptoms.

    1) clutch was hard
    1) it was giving me leg pain on drives above 70km.

changing clutch at FASS will cost around 8500+taxes. Please see the bills for clutch replacement along with my 60k service.

Thank you all for the replies. Got the clutch replaced. Now the gear and clutch has become very smooth and soft. But still there is no pick up on the car. Even after crossing 2000 rpm, there is no power (any gear).
Going to the service center tomorrow, to get the turbo hose / pipe checked. Any experience on that anybody ?

Faulty clutch does reduce cars pickup and makes gear shift a difficult task.... but it does not have any effect on Car engine performance... they are two different units coupled together to drive the car...

Hi Vishal, I have Linea Multijet Emotion Diesel. I also replaced the Clutch recently after 60k. As you said I too have lost the pick Up after the change. What did you do to resolve the pickup issue. Guide me please. Thanks in advance
