It is important that this campaign succeeds. Why?, because it is a precursor to the next campaign of electoral reforms. It is almost shameful to see parliamentarians behave like feudal lords who have turned "the house" into their feudal estate where no person who is not "electable" is not welcome.

The question is limited to the METHODS of Anna – and his team.
So, it seems that these methods are questionable.

My short answer – under extraordinary circumstances, these methods are justified.
And these are extraordinary circumstances since:
    a. Corruption is such an important issue.
    b. The Parliament’s track record suggests that it has repeatedly failed to ratify a Lokpal bill over the last two decades – if not more.
    c. No political party will be happy creating an effective Lokpal since the source(s) of their electoral funding will probably be the first thing to be questioned.
    d. No bureaucrat - who actually draft such bills - will be happy since they too will come under the ambit of an effective Lokpal.
    e. It is in the best interests of we, the people, that the politicians and the bureaucrats be answerable to some such independent and effective authority. Hopefully, this will help reduce corruption.

The long answer is best in the words of Ajit Dayal in his article titled The Arrogance of the Powerful.
    http://www.equitymaster.com/ht/deta...1&story=1&title=The-arrogance-of-the-powerful

    Excerpts:
Chidambaram… ridiculed Hazare's contention that their Jan Lok Pal Bill draft has to be considered, saying, "Laws cannot be made by social activists in a maidan."
That last sentence hit me: Laws cannot be made by social activists in a maidan.
    That is, indeed, very true.
Mahatma Gandhi did not set the laws of an independent India in a maidan.
Nor did Martin Luther King set the laws that gave equality to blacks in a maidan.
Nor did the women who fought for their right to vote… change the law in a maidan.

They began the awareness of the wrongs in a maidan.
The laws were changed in bodies built by the constitution.

This fits beautifully with Rashid Alvi's statement that Hazare should stand for election.
Chidambaram is saying make all the noise you want in a maidan, but you cannot change any laws.
Alvi is saying come meet me in Parliament and lets settle this issue there.
    Very consistent. Very logical.
That is, if you are a tyrant.

Imagine what would have happened if Mahatma Gandhi was dealing with Hitler. He would probably have been executed in 30 seconds. End of freedom struggle for a few decades.
Or if Martin Luther King was dealing with Hitler and wanted equal rights for the black race? Well, we know what happened to the Jews who wanted to be treated as human beings.
Luckily, Mahatma Gandhi dealt with the British - who had a conscience and listened to the voices of those who had no seats in their governing councils. No seats in their Parliament.
Martin Luther King's blacks had no seats in most government bodies. But he dealt with people who could reason, who could understand the desire to improve the state of a large minority population. Hence, he succeeded.
The women fighting for the chance to get elected had no seats in Parliament - the men sitting there had to change it. And change the rules they did.
What chance does an Anna Hazare party - with no access to corporate funding, with no ability to give gifts to win votes - have to win an election? To win enough seats in Parliament to change the laws?

i voted yes. sitting in front of a monitor and clicking yes or no is very easy whereas that OLD chap is trying to do something out there. and he is trying to do some good. our government is way too smart and i think anna really knows how to handle them. he has really handled the issue well.
i did not like the way ramdev went about in the whole issue.

I voted Yes. Just think about strength of lokpal bill presented by govt and members of Standing cometee.

"Agar tum kisi ke khilaf shikayat karo or wo galat to 2 saal ki saja.... I think itni majboot or acchi soch to kisi bhi county ki govt ke pass nahi hogi..."

I am not against anybody but I know that Anna is asking something good for this nation which govt could not give in 64 years.

If old chap can do then why we youngster should not ?
By using RTI Act we can also disclose any corruption of our area/city.

There are many issues avilable for this noble work.

I am struggling against adulteration in fuel. Aftersome time I am going to call information about repairs of roads in my area & city. & about sound pollution in my area.

So friends Charity Begins at Home. Let's start.

Because after Anna who is with us ? So everybody should become Anna.
Otherwise in this corrupted country future of our children will be very hard.

I am all for the cause. But I am not too sure of the methods. But do we have a choice?
As a strictly short term tactic to bring about the real change that is required in the truly democratic and constitutional way this may be justified.

I voted a 'Yes'. Extreme situations sometimes require extreme measures - moreover this movement so far has been peaceful. And I certainly feel, corruption needs to be controlled to a minimum at the earliest.
