@rituraj: Thanks for sharing this :)

@cinju: yeah - it is better to stay away from those cheap yellow cloths - they cannot even rightly called MF :)

@Italia-Linea...Oops! I used PEPSODENT instead :D Jokes apart, driving in the dark had really become hazardous with those watermarks, especially with oncoming traffic on high beam. Glad, I found a solution after a lot of headache.

Hi All... Thanks everybody for giving your experience about car detailing.. especially Anoop and Cinju for giving such detailed step to step instructions.. We owe to you..
I own a BNW Punto which is now 8 months old. During the initial periods, I used sonax car shampoo for washing the body and sunguard protector for exterior plastics. currently I use plain water wash, i used hair shamp0o also 3-4 times. To remove TAR dots, I used diesel also long back on doors... Do diesel apply or hair shampoo wash spoil the clear coat. Diesel I used on doors and rear.

I have not tried any other cleaning methods.. After reading I wish to wax my BNW. As it is now waxed yet, I would like to follow the ways you suggested.. ie shampoo wash/pat dry/wax. Please suggest If i am doing right or not. I have planned to buy Mother FX Synwax and micro fiber for this pupose. How many MF do i need to procure for the Wash and Wax? MF available in Relianz Auto Zone is fine?

Do you recommend clay or pre-wax or polish before I go ahead with first WAX job?

There are swirl marks on the body escpecially on the bonnet which is visible on night when light falls on and some times at day under sun. Is it okay to wax the car with these swirl marks? Or Do i need to remove the swirl marks first before applying wax?

    Thanks,
    Ganesh G

3M yellow MF is one of the easily available and VFM branded MF in India. Few other good brands are -Cobra, viking, Mothers, meguiars. Cobra is supposedly very good, but somewhat costly. If you have some inside contacts, try getting 3M BLUE MF cloth - it is MUCH better than the yellow MF, but sadly, they do not retail it :(

I use Jopasu and man - it makes cleaning of the car MUCH easier. Go, get it.

Hi Ganeh - we are always happy to help :)
It is good that you are planning to wax your car. It is good to start by cleaning the paint first - either clay it or use a good polish. If you think the paint do not have much contaminations, then polish will be fine. If you can put few snaps, we might be able to help you.

In any case, first step should be cleaning and then follow it up with a good wax. A good polish and wax should help you to hide the swirl marks. Once you do it, try switching to ONR to clean your car - it si much better and easy way to clean. Buy a jopasu to dust your car and use ONR to wash the car without water :)

You will need couple of MF cloths - for washing, for applying the wax \ polish, to buff the polish \ wax etc. Do not use the same MF for applying\buffing wax\polish. What I personally do is, i use fine cotton cloth to make a temporary pad to apply the polish \ wax and I use MF to buff it. Not the best way, but easy and VFM.

Stay away from applying diesel - it will harm your clear coat.

As for MF - I would suggest you to get 3M yellow MF. At 100 rs for a towel, it is good VFM too.

Rituraj .. I think I am the patent holder here :boxer. Hey jokes apart I had this problem long before & my remedial measures were 'white' colgate tooth paste or mild rubbing compound. You can have a look at post #25 in this thread

Well, my brand new OB Punto delivered today is already covered in dust.
I want to know if I can wash it or should I take it to a car wash. I have no idea how to wash a car and am worried the wash would leave marks on the shiny color.
If I do decide to do it, I have a Formula 1 Brand Car Shampoo and a X-Static Microfiber cloth.

Can I use the shampoo on the windshield and windows as well?
How do I dry the car? I will need another dry cloth to wipe it clean?
Do I need to polish or wax or is it optional?

I am trying to read up but please reply as I don't want the car to get scratches due to dust.
