Forget four lanes Ramesh - The roads in Tirupur & Coimbatore district takes the cake. Smooth laid tarmac and lots of scenery around with zilch traffic - the place where you can put your machines to test. As I've been telling you Karur - Kovai stretch is excellent - the road surface quality is better than NH4 & 45 which allowed me to average at 98Km/Hr.

True. Karur-Coimbatore stretch is the BEST 2 Lane highway I have ever seen. Its even better than most of the 4 Lane highways.

But, don't ever plan to take Trichy-Karur. I had nightmares in this stretch. The best way to reach Karur from Chennai is to take Chennai-Villupuram-Ulundurpet-Attur-Rasipuram-Namakkal-Karur.

Agreed. I am getting spoiled as well. Clocked an average of 97 between Tiruchi to Vandalur recently. Speed dropped after that. In the end managed 90 when i received home at Nanganallur.

Was able to acheive Avg speed of 87 KMPH and above in Chennai-Pondy (Bypass) strech couple of times... managed to reach 165 KMPH couple of times, but didnt have heart to push it further... i was all confident like was crusing 100 KMPH... love you Punto :) Never took more than 1 hr 20 mins from Mcity to Muthiyalpet, Pondy... once i reached in 1 hr time...

No wonder am getting mileage of <15 KMPL as i always love to push her to the core...

Coimbatore-Thrissur (NH 47, now NH 544) is in very bad state.

    I recommend,
    Chennai-Trichy-Karur-Dharapuram-Pollachi-Palakkad-Shoranur-Thrissur.
    Gmap link - https://maps.google.co.in/maps?sadd...=thriss&mra=dpe&mrsp=3&sz=9&via=1,2,3&t=m&z=9

    Chennai-Trichy is 4 Laned.
Trichy-Karur - The road widening is on and almost complete. The initial 15 kms. may be a pain but very smooth thereafter.
    Karur-Dharapuram-Pollachi - Excellent 2 laned SH.
    Pollachi-Palakkad - Average to good.
    Palakkad-Shoranur-Thrissur - Very good.

I will aslo suggest what Ramesh mentioned . Till Palaghat the roads are very good .. After that as Ramesh mentioned the roads should be good . I have not taken that route for some time ..

Also in april end i travelled via Chennai - Trichy - Dindigul - Pollachi - Kollengode - Vadakkencherry- Thrissur . i took my old zen for this route . In this route till Pollachi it was great route .. and from pollachi till we enter kerala the roads were good . But once we enter kerala the roads were bad . The roads were narrow and very uneven patch work . There wont be any underbody scrapping . But the max speed you will be able to take is around 50 -60 kmph .. Daytime travelling on this route will be okay .. But night time will be very hectic .

The first route via Theni - Kumily - Kottayam i took in february and this was an excellent strip in february .

But in feb , some raod widening work was goin on @ Theni .. But the deviations were not more than 20 -30 mtrs . If you can cover this stretch in day time then this route is good .. In this route , surprisingly you will get good roads in kerala . At any cost avoid NH 47 in kerala from alpy to tvm . YOu can stick to MC road which is less crowded and decent roads.

    Ajit
