Great news. Metro is a boon wherever it will be implemented. And DMRC has showed the entire country how it should be done. Chennai-ites are gonna love the ride of the Metro.

The only improvement I want to see in Chennai is better accessibility to the disabled population. Many stations in Delhi are not really friendly towards the disabled.

There is a Mohali-Chandigarh-Panchkula metro plan being given final touches as well :)

This is a big problem in planning for Metro, even in Bangalore Metro.
I think in Delhi, the parking facilities are there on all stations, but in Bangalore, and now I see in Chennai, this is not considered important factor in planning.

Truth be told, there shouldn't be any parking in a metro station. The "Metro feeder" concept should be strengthened so much that people don't feel the need to take their own vehicle to the station.

DMRC is still implementing the feeder concept.

Yeah true, if you have some alternate service to reach metro station from your home office. Otherwise its a big miss.

Just a question, from Saidapettai to Little mount, will the metro train climb up the corridor? , or do the passengers have to disembark and do the climbing.I've travelled in Kolkatta and Paris metros, both the experiences were exactly similar. Thankfully there is one thing of international standards in India, maybe because it's not made in India!

Saidapet to Little Mount will be on elevated line. The train will again go below ground where Airport runway starts.

Chennai Metro Rail tests train on elevated line near Koyambedu

Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) on Thursday tested a four-coach train on a ramp that connects Koyambedu depot to the elevated Koyambedu-St Thomas Mount line.

The train was driven from the depot to the ramp and back to the depot a few times as part of the trial run. Senior officials and other staff of CMRL travelled on the train.

Earlier, the train was being tested on a test track installed in the depot at Koyambedu after chief minister J Jayalalithaa inaugurated its test run two months ago. The trains should be tested several times on the test track and on the line before inducting them into service.

First glimpse of the Chennai Metro underground Tunnel

It took one and half years, 150 Indian and 70 Chinese workers, and two TBMs to build these tunnels underneath 100 buildings, to connect Kilpauk with Egmore.

In my office many who commute by their own two wheeler/four wheeler are already vouching that they will shift to Metro's once they get operational. But not everyone are staying close to metro stations. So considering that parking facility is not going to be available in all stations, they may continue to use their own transport. Nevertheless, metro trains are going to be priceless gift for Chennai'ites. Wish they are able to complete the Velachery-St.Thomas Mount stretch as well soon, that'll make the south Chennai most well connected by Train.
