My wife and I share a car and I was planning on getting the Carlinkit dongle for my Jeep to make the carplay wireless.

Just wondering if it’ll auto-connect to my phone when I’m using the car and also my wife’s when she uses it, or are these devices really built for a single user for auto-connect to work efficiently?

I also understand that there may be some issues when we both are in the car simultaneously, but I’m asking what happens when we use the car separately.

@Chad Decker , Welcome to TFI.

    Replying with my search results.

Yes. You can connect multiple phones. And it auto-connects.

If multiple connected phones are available in the car, it gives an option to use which one for connection to HU. This is quite logical too, as you can't have 2 phones to be supported simultaneously.

And no issues for separate use.

    Update:

I ended up getting a carlinkit 4.0 over the weekend. Setup was painless and took less than a minute.

Connection time to my phone when getting in and starting up has for the most part been pretty quick. The longest it has taken so far is maybe around 30-40 seconds but every other time it ranges from maybe 5 seconds upwards to 20 seconds.

When it's in the process of connecting, my phone shows up as a button on the center screen as the default (and only) choice. I simply ignore this screen and it disappears after successful connection. My guess is if you have two phones, they both would appear here, and this is where you could change which you want to connect.

Cool. Hope it is working as expected.
Curious to know what happens when 2 previously connected phones are detected.
