Can we reset the ECU of Punto/Linea ?

Discussion in 'Electrical Systems' started by amolmane, Nov 11, 2010.

  1. Not a pro but my guess is ECU firmware has nothing to do with adulterated fuel.Changing ECU firmware can't make car insensitive to Adulterations.Adulterated fuel produces gumming of injectors and ECU can do nothing about it.

Please correct me if my assumption is wrong.

I own Maruti Dzire also with same platform engine. My Dzire runs happily even with adulterated diesel. :dancing

Fiat has made Punto refined than swift. :wow

Rule of diesel engine :- More Smooth engine less pulling power.

Because of too much refinement fiat require "PURE" quality of diesel.

Listen firing of Swift. Diesel clattering is more than Punto.

In Punto this diesel clatter is less. So punto requires top class fuel quality.

I don't mean that ECU firmware of punto is bad. It is definatly better than swift.
But fiat should sacrifice refinement for a little bit for getting same spike like Swift.

Please read my thread loss of power then you will come to know why Iam unhappy with my multijet. :sadblue

After 1800 RPM my engine feels breathless. There is feeling of under inflation from a balloon. Means Retarded Injection timing is there. Experience of Low turbo boost is there.

My car is running like Naturally Aspirated engine (Non Turbo Car) :A

But no ECU error & No Fault code :confused

There is a Knocking Sensor in engine. When we use bad fuel, diesel knock is created.
Did you know knocking sound in diesel engine.
Sound like a TATA Sumo or a Tractor.

When this knock comes, knock sensor sends signal to ECU.
Then ECU make changes in the Injection Timing .

Injection timing is Retarded due to signal from Knock Sensor.
& because of Retarded Injection timing Fuel is injected little bit late after TDC (Top Dead Centre of Piston)
Change in Injection timing means Change in Performance,Torque,Turbo Boost
    Change in all Man !

I have noticed by Trial & Error in use of 30000Km of my multijet.
Experiments done by changing fuel quality from last 1 year (30000KM)

This is the relation between Adulterated diesel & Multijet Engine
    I repeat Multijet !

    Yes !

I reset ECU of my multijet by disconnecting both terminals.

Engine Response upgraded upto 75 % :wow

25 % deficit may be due to Kerosene in fuel.

    I will update the info.

one member has mentioned that by resetting ECU,false errors are deleted & Fuel management parameters changes

But if there is frequently needs to reset ECU like this & if there is no any fault codes then what to do ? ::O

    Please clarify

In this thread, team-bhp member has mentioned that ECU f DDiS engine, resets automatically after each 3000 KM

ECU of DDiS & Multijet is same. i.e. Magnetti-Marrelli.

In this thread, member has also mentioned because of this self Resetting cycle for each 3000 KM
some time turbo-lag increases & strong turbo boost reappers.

Is there any one who has experinced this feature in his multijet :anyone

Again there are false errors in my GP ECU. :confused
    Performance again degraded. :A :A

Again Iam getting torque of 3rd gear in 1st gear :A :A :A

Today I will disconnect both terminals of Battery for whole night & see what will happen tommorow.

I suspect that Throttle position Sensor OR Knock Sensor is sending wrong signal to ECU So false error is there.

If I reagained performance then atulalvenkar is right.

You are going to factory meet, right? So check with some other GP and compare yours.

I have disconnected both battery terminals.
Tommorrow morning I will see & if I can visit to factory visit, then share my experiences.

if there is frequently needs to reset ECU like this & if there is no any fault codes then what to do ? :A :A

No one can set your ECU for mileage. If your car has problem you need a good servicing. Spark plugs ( spark plug gap setting also important) , air filter, throttle body cleaning. Good condition of engine oil , gearbox oil etc.

If you want to reset your ECU, you can do it yourself in 2 minutes.

    1. Remove the positive of the battery.
    2. Crank your vehicle 2 times to remove the residual current if any.
    3. Reconnect the positive.
