So, what exactly are they going to do to prevent recurrence? Trial and judgement is hardly solace to the family of the unfortunate victim and really does nothing to deter such inhuman characters on the prowl out there. What exactly can we expect the sentence to be? Hang till death? It took us two f***ing years to hang a man who was caught with a smoking gun after having massacred more than 200 innocent people. In this case, they will at best give 10 years for rape and life for manslaughter to run parallel and grant bail after a couple of years for *good behaviour*

    God save this country.

The only courage that those criminals might have got before the incident was that she was a woman and she will try to keep quite after that and they can escape. This assurance is what our great judiciary and government gave to each such criminals with their inefficiency

Martial arts learning should make compulsory at schools. Parents should take initiative to make their kids fit at least to escape from a unwanted situation.
I used to tell some of my relatives to send her daughter for Karate class and they have the attitude, she is a girl why it needed. In many times if the victims could have got some mental/physics strength to survive the situation the chances for escape would have been more along with a vibrant active society and police.

Another point that I want to mention is about the judiciary. We have seen in media the case of rapes. There are advocates for those criminals. Those advocates will be knowing the truth. If it turned out in court with solid proof that he is culprit then he will get punishment. What about the advocate knowing that he has done a rape still trying to save the culprit. Does he eligible to enter the court after that. He take the fees and go home. What is our judiciary has to say about this. This is s special situation never been thought about. If it is a murder case there can be situation which might have forced him to do the murder for his own safety. There is no clear distiction between where is wrong and where is right. So is the case with similar situation like divorce, land disputes. But for rape there is a clear distinction. The moment the lawyer come to know that some body has raped there is no rule on this earth which justify it. He should right away deny any service. The criminal will be powerless the question of saving him doesn't arise. And this will make sure that no such incidents will occur. But if the lawyer try to save him knowing the truth and even the court allow him to be a lawyer after that I don't believe in that system.

Respect for the opposite sex is what is most crucial and this has to start right from childhood. In India, the girl is unsafe, right from the mother's womb. Never mind the fact that the womb belongs to another woman. It is only when the Indian man learns to look at the woman as a human being first, can we see a change. As long as we live in a society with a so called "Rich culture and heritage", it will be status quo and more Nirbhaya's will get gang raped. The sad fact is that for ever rape reported, ten others never see the light of the day.

In a society that has a penchant for punishing the victim, change is very hard to come by. I mean, we live in a country where an AIDS patient is untouchable, a child with Downs Syndrome is somehow a sinner and an acid attack victim has to be kept far away from main stream society. By derivation, a rape victim has had her modesty violated once, so it is OK to publicly rape her again and again, day in and day out.

And we still have the gall to call ourselves Human Beings?

Sorry , but you have a complete misunderstanding of the situation.

The bedrock of a fair judicial system is giving an opportunity to the accused to present his side of the case. It is for the prosecution to establish his guilt beyond doubt and for the Judge to take a call based on the facts presented by both parties.

Remember, you are innocent until proven guilty.

If this were not to be so, we would be no better than Taliban style judgements.

Take the example of Kasab. Who didn't know he killed all those people. BUT, a fair Judicial system gives opportunity to the accused to present his case, howsoever weak/strong it may be. And when the trial was finished and Kasab executed, India recived accolades from across the world in the way it handled the case in the true sense of justice - by giving him a fair trial.

But, even after proving one guilty, whether to punish him or not and when to do that, depends on whether there is an impending assembly or parliament election! Vote matters, not always justice! Even now the central and the delhi govt woke up only after seeing the magnitude of the protests, even without any political leadership to head it. Otherwise, this would have gone as just another delhi-rape-murder case.
I am sure that in a few days, or may be weeks, the protest will die down and all will forget the tragedy. "Life" will be back on track as usual until another tragedy occurs.
