It is obvious that not many people have driven a Punto, not even a test drive. I think it is high time that FIAT woke up from their deep slumber and announced incentives for a TD. That would lure more people to take a TD. Once anyone takes a TD of a FAIT, it will be really hard for them to buy another car. I am very sure that people who have voted for swift have never driven a Punto. Polo being in the third place speaks volumes of how much the voters have experienced. If Punto was out of the equation (God forbid), then any day Polo is way better than swift.

PS: I already voted for Punto last night. 132nd vote, I think :D

Exactly my thoughts. A Lavazza coffee and a delicate pastry would do the trick, IMO. On a more serious note, Fiat really needs to up its act. But I think they have taken the first step in their road to success:

    1) Break shackles off Tata (best thing to happen to them)
    2) Create and consolidate network from the existing cities and towns where they have had dealerships via Tata. They have a "welcoming dealership" thing going on on their website.
    3) Good marketing. Fiat Caffe the right step in this direction. It will be expensive investment-wise (more investment on the part of the dealer) to begin with, but it should pay off in due course.
    4) For smaller cities, where they can't have a full-fledged dealership going, they should have display outlets in malls and the like (just wishful thinking here). And a TD vehicle with a dedicated small sales team.

Back to the topic, they have to lure people back to test drive their machines; once hooked (good TD + what looks like good sales/service) - it will be difficult for them to buy another brand car.
