That sounds very similar to the system we worked on. We used to think up many different ways to break their algorithm such as placing a suitcase or bag and then tying it down with the seat belt. Since we weren't doing the actual testing we didn't know how the system reacted.

Most of the People are not aware of the safety features present in FIAT, I bet not even the Sales Ad visors at the TAFE Showroom know about it.

Front impact sensor on linea is shown (encircled) in the picture below: airbag sensor.jpg
The sensor is present at the same location in punto also.
As we can see that its located well inside so only very severe frontal impact will deploy the airbags.

For the Linea in question in post http://www.teamfiat.co.in/safety-first/2548-accidents-21.html#post118012, the windscreen is intact so we can very safely tell that the impact didn't reach the sensor and hence airbag deployment wasn't required here.

Thats front wheel speed sensor which is part of 'brake hydraulic system'. similar sensor is present near rear wheels also. not sure if the Airbag Control Unit takes input from these sensor also other than the main front impact sensor

I think that is the recieving unit for the impact sensor. It must recieve it's input from a sensor located near the front bumper. And then send the signal to the airbag ECU.

Not really gurjinder paaji. if you look at the below picture for a punto, the part in question is mentioned quite clearly as 'front impact sensor'. Also there are two for each side (part no 2) mentioned in the catalogue as 'not applicable' since these are sensors for side airbags which are not present in indian punto.

However the question which is still unanswered is if the Airbag Control Unit takes input from the wheel speed sensors also which are located near the front and rear wheels.

IN Todays world min 4 star ncap safety is needed even in india as we are also travelling in high speed, in that case FIAT has done very good things in safety.

My bad. It is the sensor only.

Will have to see how it works in that position.
