    ABS SAVES LIFES & CAR

I was going to an nearby town(Pollachi) from Coimbatore(April 22nd 2010) via NH 209 in my Linea. I was arriving at an Intersection whrein a bypass road of NH 47 meets. The signal was GREEN for me & I was driving at around 45 Kms speed, sudenly a Swift Dezire from Kerala(from NH47 bypass) appeared like a gost :shocked right in front of my car just 10 feet away jumping the RED signal. I applied break fully & ABS though helped me by not locking the wheels, I was able to steer the car just in time & away form the Dezire.

Thanks to ABS Breaking system, otherwise my car would have skidded & rammed into the Dezire front left door which I think would have rolled over & would have caused considerable damage to the car & loss of life.

    Buy Cars with ABS.

ABS & Air Bags should be made compulsary in all cars.

re: ABS BRAKING SAVES LIFES & CAR

Very truly said Naren. Good that ur safe. below i am placing an old post of mine from PUG abt the similar experience.

    "Guys....I want to share something.

Well I tested (albeit forced to do so) ABS of my EMO pack.

Yesterday after office I was going to my home from Gurgaon and near RTR Marg
I lost concentration for a few moment and there I was at unimaginable close
distance to an Innova in bang middle of road. It was waiting behind some
vehicle and here I was going at 60+ towards that Innova. Perhaps just by
reflex I stood on the brakes and that is how I came to witness the ABS
action. It kicked in after some time (a second or two of hard braking) and
was noisy. I heard three distinct similar sounds which were never heard of
before kind of noises. Man I stopped at approx half a meter from the Innova.

I stopped because I was on ABS...I am sure. I have been driving since last
25 years. And I can say no car that I have driven till now would have
stopped in this circumstance. I recovered the cost I paid for Emotion pack.
i would have lost both lamps, bonnet, fenders and radiator alongwith AC
condenser for minimum. The damage to Innova would have been additional
burden. After stoppage the car was back to normal no sound no signs of
fatigue only a profusely sweating owner at driving seat.

Now call me emotional or what but when I came to my full senses after driven
on calm shanti path a kilometre ahead, I kissed my stearing and thanked my
car no end for saving me from such a potentially messy disaster. I am proud
to be PUNTO owner. and Guys how I wished to share this with all u guys.

    cheers!!!

    Vijyant "

Adding to Ravi's compilation - my post from my Travelogue. The very 1st thing I started the travelogue with, was the Linea Brakes :-D

Question - In case of emergency braking, should we press cluth first and then apply hard brake (so that car's engine doesn't stop) or should only brake be applied and leave the clutch?
In 2nd option I think engine braking would also help, but engine will stop.

Also anything needs to be taken care on steering? Or just keep it straight?

With ABS, you will not loose control as it also acts to keep the car going in the direction pointed.
Since there is EBD, you can press the clutch as the ECU will do its best to stop the car.
If the engine stalls, the braking will be affected as the Brake booster runs when the engine is running!!

Need not worry. But just be careful of someone rear ending you!!

Its better to push the clutch and break together so that the engine doesnt stall... Also please check for the rare vehicle cos am sure your baby would come to a stand still avoiding u banging the front vehicle but not sure whether the rare vehicle would be able to sustain that breaks... There mayb an exception only if the rare vehicle may also be a Punto/Linea:)
