    Back to Home

After a long gap, finally I am back to Chennai. :)

My Linea remained well covered exactly as I left before leaving US. The packing was intact thanks to linealover for helping me to do this. Given the fact that no one used the car for all these times, I was little worried if the car will start without any issues.

Uncovered the car, connected the battery, and the car started in the very first crank. :)

The interior seemed ok but the boot seemed little messy. I sensed that rats visited very often. Fortunately, did not see or face any error and the car moved well. The tyre pressure recorded at 20 PSI (I filled nitrogen 35 PSI when left). Used the tiny 12V air compressor and filled air on all 4 tyres.

    Task 1 - Tyres

Headed straight to Lal's Tyres at Whites Road, Chennai and changed all 4 tyres to MRF ZLO (195/60 R15). It costed Rs. 4500 a tyre and they charged Rs. 19,200 including alignment, Balancing and some discount. The initial impression I had after the change is that it is super silent, gives more comfort, and the steering became little light. I would be able to comment more when I do the highway drive this Sunday.

    Task 2 - Detailing

After changing the tyres, headed straight to 3M Car Care, Nungambakkam. They were courteous as usual and I opted to do Foam wash (interior cleaning and dressing) and waxing which costed Rs. 990 (plus tax).

Task 3 - Power cable (Rat menace)

Even though there was no issues with the car, my music system did not give me output to the components and the sub which are powered by a 4 channel Amp. Noticed that the Amp itself did not power up. Headed to Power zone to diagnose the issue. Mr. Saravana found that it was the handy work of rat which chewed up the power cable. He replaced the whole cable and it is now perfect.

Task 4 - Brake pads and absolute mud flaps.

The brake pads became bad even before I left India. It needed immediate replacement. I called up RDC only to find that they don't take any car without appointments. Then what about emergency running repairs like this? I asked. They directed me to talk with the MD, Mr. Chandrasekar. I called him and he was very courteous and he asked to visit the shop for the replacement. Thanks to RDC, Brake pads were replaced and also asked them to install absolute mud flaps. I will share my complete experience at RDC in the RDC thread.

Some pictures taken during all these process using my mobile phone camera. More updates will follow.

The initial impression is that it is silent and more comfortable. I couldn't sense anything with regard to the road grip. I would be hitting the highway this Sunday and doing around 1000 kms. I will comment more on this later.

    Thanks Pauleralil.

Yes. I do remember and will complete that. I got busy with packing my bags and hence the break. :)

    - - - Merged Post - - -

A day before leaving US, I visited the local Fiat dealer to buy some merchandise. It was 500s all over and was told by the SA that 500L would be available from mid of June. The SA was real helpful and he was with me to answer my queries even though he knew that I was not there to buy the car. :)

    Some pictures from the visit.

Yes shams. Abarth is sold under the Fiat dealership only. As far as the service is concerned, Fiats, Jeeps, Dodges are serviced at the Chrysler service center.
