Surprised to read this. How come suddenly lower arm/axle etc failed, without any warning.
    True.

Did you do anything recently, apart from changing tyres?

the part visible in 3rd last picture is the ball and socket joint on the outer end of the lower arm which broke!
due to this the axle came off. the greasy part in 2nd and 3rd picture is a part of the axle that came off but is not broken as told by the sc in initial examination.

nothing that could have caused this! only things done a month back was denting/painting of front bumper, changing of bonnet and replacement of front left link rod.

Have faced a similar incident where the lower arm socket dislocated/failed. I am not sure if it is designed such a way so as to reduce damage to other components in car. This might have happened due to some stress impact going unnoticed. The shown lower arm was rather new or recently changed.

That's the reason, why every time we need to check if there is play in wheels.

Got the car back! Pocket is lighter by 3592 + 1100 ( towing).
@Ganges i had bought new tyres 1000 kms back. Wheel alignment/ balancing was done then. I have a habit of going little fast on speed breakers and bad roads. Maybe due to that it might have taken a hit some time

Thanks to KHT for quick and good work as always!

@shams , glad you are safe. This is a freak incident. Are you sure the car didn't give any warning signs few days before this untoward incident occurred? The reason I ask is that similar thing happened to me last year. One fine day the typical 'khat khat' sound, like the one you have mentioned, started emanating from front right wheel; this will happen every time the car went though a bad section of road. When it continued for 3-4 days, took it to FASS where it was diagnosed as lower arm failure and was replaced.

Thanks Ravi! I didn't ask that knowing I would get all kinds of vague reasons if I did :)!

there was no indication at all. The only Khat sound that I got was while crossing the 1st speed breaker (when the ball joint would have broken) 20 meters before the car became immobile (due to axle coming off) just after the 2nd speed breaker.
