Is there any news about the quakes affecting roads to leh? I'm not sure if the avalanches mentioned in DoW are related to the quakes - they are the usual ones right?

Following is a random article I came across - about a traveler spending a night at Sarchu after already getting acclimatized for a night at Jispa. I think we should all plan accordingly if we are planning to take Manali-Leh - AMS might spoil all the good mood otherwise. Spending a day or two extra for this sake would be wise. But after all, we are waiting to know what is the fate of diesel vehicles in Rohtang Pass.

We have 3months of time. Hopefully things will settle down by then. Even mother earths anger would also have calmed.

I have started my preparations step-by-step - progress so far:
    • Going to pay for Ladakh-951 ASAP and start planning - I've mentioned to HVK that it should be flexible so that our (TFIans) plans should coincide with each other. I will publish the plan after that - dates are as suggested by @kedarbendre - My journey starts from 22nd August and planning reach back by 12th Sep.
    • Mentioned to my office team about my leave plans
    • Changed Car's battery to Amaron 55Ah Flo - exide was giving poor peak voltage.
    • Bought a dynamo torch light from Decathlon
    • Went for a tool hunt (but shops were closed on May 1st :( ) - bought following items:
      • Nose plier
      • Reflective Tape
      • Double sided tape
      • Masking tape
      • Steel grip
      • Multimeter
    • Next items on plan (through next 2-3 weeks)
      • Tow rope (3 ton 5 meters costs Rs. 950/- from whole sale outlets - SJP Cross Road, Blore). To visit one more branded store which supplies all 4x4 offroading needs - and get D shackles too.
      • Booster cable (Saw samples in person from JC Road. My dad will make it for me - to get wires of guage 4 or 6 with and crocodile clips).
      • Jerry cans to be purchased from Avenue road, Blore.
      • "+" Lug wrench - could get to see only normal lug wrenches for alloys (JC Road) - to search for "+".
      • Tarpolin sheets - found a lot of shops near JC road.
      • Funnels and hose from Avenue Road
      • Bosch tool kit from my friend (I have screwdriver kit from Stanley) all other basic tools to be lent from my dad.
      • Swiss Knife (needed? - not sure).
      • Remote key's battery to keep as spare
      • Fire Extinguisher
      • Spare bulbs

@VahanPujari - How easy is it for Punto with 185mm GC to go till Drang Drung (Kargil->Rangdum->Drang Drung Glacier)? HVK doesn't prefer doing this stretch. I was very excited about going till Drang Drung after going through your travelogue :(

@kedarbendre - he he - this is favorite time-pass nowadays - preparing for Leh trip.
Regarding leaves: Mine is like approved only - but I will apply for it formally soon.
I got an indicative itinerary from HVK - he prefers Srinagar-Leh and Leh-Manali.
Will share the details soon after some research.
