Have a read of the Engine Balance topic on Wikipedia. It's a good one.
3 Cyl.pot has more NVH levels.
In 3 cylender engine, torsional vibrations of crankshaft are more.
So some manufacturer put Crankshaft Balancer to minimise crank vibes.
If I am not wrong,Pionneraaroon mentioned that Nissan Micra has crankshaft balancer.
This technology is used in 2 wheeler also.
In Bajaj Pulsar & Suzuki GS 150 R cranshaft balancer Idler Gear is used.
4 cylinder engine has smooth & balanced power delivery.So in my view 4 cylender mill is the best.
