Brake Pad Change and RDC Experience

Cost of Brake Pads & Fitting Charges - I changed my brake pads at RDC yesterday after 27000 KMS. Have been losing the confidence in braking for the last 1000+ KMS after my trip to Chikmagalore, Sringeri, Udupi and Mangalore.

Called Tenzing - got an appointment in a jiffy - Marks 10/10
Attended and car taken to service bay - 5 mins - Marks 10/10
Completing change of brake pads and TD - 1 hour - Marks 10/10 - Concorde ECR would have taken 1 HR to attend and take the car inside the bay:evil:
Waiting for billing to be completed - 45 Mins - Marks 5/10 - 5 as the staff is new and the swiping machine is not working - can be pardoned as they are setting up the shop. But need to be fast as the bay is small and could not
handle more than 5 customers at a time. Will be chaotic if they start 100% operations
Cost of Brake Pads Rs. 3200 incl tax - seems to be costly. Require inputs from fellow TFI'ans
Labour Cost Rs. 750 + tax - seems to be costly. Require inputs from fellow TFI'ans

Overview of service station - Small but neat. Ingress & Egress could be difficult when service centers becomes fully operational. In the city, hence easily accessible
Courtesy of the service team - Excellent - to keep up even when volumes starts pouring in
Spares Stock Situation - Pathetic. Mr.Prabhu - fellow TFI'an was advised that no fuel filter change is required at 15000 (he has driven only 9000 + kms, but service is due) KM service. Very wrong advise. This is a basic accessory and its non availability is concerning
Vehicle history - Not available with RDC is a very big concern. They promised it will be available in another 10 days time, but not encouraging. Could impact warranties of parts changed.
Bad News - Got information that other dealers have dropped off from the race of dealership for FIAT. For sure RDC will not be able to handle volume in service with this shop alone. For sure it will bring problems as quality will go down as quantity increases. More over, servicing the car is continuous business and competition is necessary to keep the dealer in his toes - Hoping & Day dreaming :D

Overall - Positive Start, Need to continue.

re: FIAT Exclusive Service Center: RDC Fiat, Chennai

A senior person at RDC confirmed that they are looking to set up one more workshop and they are in search of a good place. So when volumes pour in , no worries. Added to that I can see a lot of Fiats at concorde. There are not many people who are auto savvy as we are and they will continue with Tass till they officially shut doors to Fiat which I doubt will happen anytime soon.

The TASSs will continue to service Fiats at least till end of this year. But, I doubt whether they will stock the spares.

I got my second service done from concorde few weeks back, when I enquired about mirror caps they said they have slowed down getting Fiat spares as FASS has been opened:D

Counter sales is the most disliked sales in the automobile industry. TATA allows it Even in TASS, Fiat spares were never given OTC. I used to buy airfilters of the Quadrajet which has a different part number and a lot cheaper than when it bears a Fiat part number. I guess you can buy engine spares of the Quadrajet and use it for the multijet (most spares) except those that are different due to engine mounting architecture.

OTC sales are allowed in Concorde Motors, Dairy Circle and Mysore Road, Bangalore. I have bought ParaFlu coolant concentrate, Selenia K engine oil in loose/can, air-filter, rear-view mirror, etc. there. I don't know whether OTC sales are done in RDC FIAT, Chennai; will try in one of my visits to Chennai.:)

    Abdul,

You can get Fiat parts OTC in ECR concord! If you know the part number you can get it for sure, but it may take some time and followup.

IMO they can sell OTC at least some items like consumables so that we can change ourselves. I always have a stock of air filters with me.

    Gopi

Cost of Brake Pads are costly. If your car is in warranty i will suggest to get it done from FASS or else get them from KAVA automobiles and get them fitted outside. I guess it will be half the cost.

RDC needs a bigger setup soon. They cant handle the crowd(Tfians especially:evilsmile) and i hope they have them soon.

Ramesh TASS will continue to service FIAT's outside the regions where FIAT doesnt have a dedicated dealership and service. I checked with VST and TAFE they said they will be closing their shop's by end of March.

I guess so they will have OTC. I purchased a Punto Sports chrome exhaust from them.

They dont have Fuel Filter (diesel filter) in stock with them and will take some more time till the parts are available. If it was TASS then they would have taken the filter's from Vista and could have fitted them to Punto's. This is why i miss TASS as service dealer coz most of the part are same between Vista and Punto's.
