Valentines day with my Punto ;) (Hope my wife doesn't see this posting)

    Feb 13th

My Punto started making strange sounds while changing gears & the shifting has become quite hard. Decided to change the entire fluids (Blokes at Concorde didn't do the fluid change at 30k service- they just topped it up i guess:A). Made a service booking at Concorde ECR.

    14th Feb

    9:30 AM.

Entire episode of the bitter experience i had at Concorde ECR last time flashed through my mind. Enough of those ****heads, i decided to give RDC a shot. Knew that they were still in the process of setting up their Service center, but decided to try my luck. Called Indira (09840602519) who handles (quite efficiently) the service calls & raised my request. She was courteous enough to check with Mr Tenzing (08939910991) and return my call in less than couple of minutes. They were ready to take my car as it was just a minor service (only fluid change). :dance

9:00 AM - Didn't bother to cancel the service booking made at Concorde ECR. Took my car to RDC ( a long 30 Km drive from my home). Took almost 2 Hrs to reach RDC in morning traffic. The service center is quite easy to spot. They have installed a nice banner on the entrance & is just opposite to Virtusa - Ekkattuthangal.

    The Entrance:

10: 45 AM - Mr. Tenzing & Mr. Tamil was there to attend my car. We pulled out the vehicle history & confirmed that the oil change was not done. It seemed like most of the TAFE Fiat staff has moved to RDC. They patiently listened to my concerns & took notes. Mr. Tenzing & his team inspected my car & asked them to carry out the necessary oil changes. He asked me to change the link rod in next service. He assured me that they stock almost all the spares (except fo some Engine parts). I was happy to see all Fiats around :) . As their yard was getting ready, they are temporarily using this space for parking new cars. One of the technicians spotted that my Clutch slave cylinder was Plastic & FIAT has given instruction to change them for free (Recall ???) if the customer complaints of hard gear shifting & Clutch. They arranged for this part from TAFE as it has to be entered under Warranty/ Recall (The intranet is not yet ready).

I could see the Owners of RDC busy in instructing the interior/ Electrical teams on what needs to be done. The service area was well lit & neatly arranged. I guess pictures speaks more than words, so here are some snaps:

** It will take minimum of 2 - 3 weeks to get the service center ready. They are scouting for land in South / North Chennai set up a bigger service center & will be converting this present facility to exclusive Body Shop.

    Paint Booth :p:dance:clapping

    Car Wash area (getting ready)

    List of work done:
    1. Complete fluid change (except engine Oil)
    2. Clutch slave cylinder change
    3. General Check
    4. Seat tightening

Got the car back by 2 PM (Delayed only because of the time taken to get Clutch slave cylinder from TAFE) On the whole - really happy with RDC, Mr Tenzing , Mr. Tamil & their team. :p . As their systems were not ready they took my email for mailing a soft copy of the bill. Overall bill came to 2795 INR, & they didn't charge me for the general checkup.

Met a fellow TFIan Mr. Prabhu who came to take his Tuscan wine Punto that was given for 1st free service (5k mark) & exchanged numbers.

    Thumbs up to RDC ::T

    Great review.
If this is going to be just body shop, then the size is huge.

Thanks Ravi, & Yes if this facility is to be converted as exclusive Body Shop it will be a huge one. This might take some time to shape up as getting suitable land is the biggest issue they are facing now. Even on that day when I was there, Tenzing went to see a property in Medavakkam (South Chennai) but that didn't work out it seems.

They also indicated that there is a chance of another FIAT Dealership (apart from RDC) coming up in Chennai.

That is a ROOMY facility. Unlike the claustrophobic old TASS at Chandigarh.

Yeah Gurjindar. But if TASS stops taking FIAT cars, the entire set of FIAT service will be funneled to RDC, which they wont be able to handle with this facility alone. Thats the reason why they were looking out for another space.

"claustrophobic old TASS" - This made me dig up some old snaps i took at Concorde ECR :-D

Thanks Nuts&Bolts for sharing your experience with RDC. I really hope they should soon move to a more bigger facility than this. This shouldn't be enough if the TASC's stop taking Fiat cars. And yes, there should always be more than one dealers/service centers in the city.

Don't know if this was shared already. They have a website as well - RDC Fiat

  7. Yesterday, I ran my punto under rear of a college bus. My car’s bonnet was dented badly. I thought of visiting a local garage for perfecting and painting. Thanks for sharing those photos. Now I am thinking to give RDC a try.</SPAN></SPAN>

RDC Fiat Service Center is not officially open yet. They don't have the OBD scanners and the ody shop needs to be converted from solvent based to water based paint stations. Apparently they set up a solvent based shop but now Fiat came back asking for a water based paint shop.

Anyway, they are helping Fiat owners with running repairs in the meantime. I got my AC drain pipe unclogged and drained on Saturday.

re: FIAT Exclusive Service Center: RDC Fiat, Chennai

I would advise you to change the hood/bonnet as a whole and not do any denting/putty work as the crumple zones have already done their job. Go the insurance route.
