Linealover's car went for the accident repair at Ramkay. Their bodyshop is definitely better than TAFE.

Is Tafe Reach still accepting Fiat cars? This is news to me. BTW, for painting I always prefer outside garages and the quality of work is good always..

Those days of outside garages with great painters is passe. The worker may be very skilled but today the paint material requires technology assist in the form of a paint booth. Without a paint booth the paint job looks a bit negative. What skill you can probably attribute to the local guy is his skill in doing a good dent removal and putty smoothening. Times are changing and this is out my experience in getting a dent done out at a local garage. Very nice masking but the gloss is missing as that portion did not get the heat assisst of a paint booth. But if the local has a paint booth, then sky is the limit for his skills and result.

Yes, I am saying about the outside garage with paint booth. I gave my car to MYTVS for painting left front door and they did a splendid job. The paint matching and quality is awesome. I am not confident in FASS about the painting quality, maybe I need to check in person on the quality of body work and painting done by Ramkay. Is the painting done by Ramkay water based as it is done in the factory level?

Quick visit to Ramkay Fiat Service Center

I stopped by yesterday and quite pleased with the overall level of service experience. They lubricated the clutch pedal well, no more noise or hardness. They also identified a screw missing & another that was lose in the steering column and fixed it. Spares are readily available - I picked up floor mats for the Punto (Rubber type for INR 1,300 as against INR 1,800 for the carpet ones. I already had the carpet type & don't like them a lot). I also picked up rear badges - Punto & 90Hp as these were badly placed by Tafe during the boot respray.

The painting estimates given to me by Ramkay are higher than that at Tafe - 4,300 for rear bumper, 5,500 on one door and 4,000 for a rear quarter panel. I decided to postpone the painting as the damage is quite minor.

I had changed the timing chain, eaned EGR, Exhaust Manifold and Intercooler at Ramkay.

Called up the service center and was told to come on 27th Morning. There is a lot of vehicles as there is a camp organized by Fiat. Service Advisor Shabbir is assigned to me and he noted down the points. The job list reads as follows:
    • Change Timing Chain
    • Replace B Mount
    • Change Diesel Filter
    • Clean Intercooler, Connecting pipes, EGR, Inlet Manifold
    • Replace stop light bulbs
Shabbir gave an estimate of 15K. After the job card is done, it took around an hour to get a ramp for my car and the mechanic started the work. Had to reming Shabbir a couple of time to get the work started.
I told him that I would like to be present when the job is done, but somehow he is not encouraging my presence with the mechanic. I was promised to complete the work by Sunday. But due to the unrest, the work got over only by Monday. I guess its reasonable given the situation in chennai during 27th to 29th.

Cleaning of Inlet Manifold: The manifold is cleaned using diesel, pressure washed with water and air blown to dry.

The final bill came to around 7400/-

    • Diesel Filter and B Mount is not replaced due to lack of time.
    • Connecting pipes are not cleaned as there is hardly any blocks there.
    • Intercooler is not fully cleaned as they could not remove the front bumper. I had drilled a nut to fix an accident repair of front bumper (Still they charged labour for removing bumper!!).

Post the repairs, the car has become a lot smoother. This weekend, I went on a drive till Thanjavur and while cruising ~120, suddenly the front dragged towards the right and there was some strange sound. Found out that some screws were missing in the plastic cover of the wheel arch.

    Missing Screws IMG_20141004_093353[1].jpg

ll call Ramkay to give this feedback. Screws are there for a purpose.
Nearby I found a mechanic to put some 10mm screws to set it right till I replace it.

On the experience part, I liked the work of the mechanic. He is skilled enough to ensure that the fitting of the key components are done without issues and the Timing Chain change is perfect.

With the Service Advisor, there is a lot of scope for improvement. He did not check whether the repairs that I had asked are actually done. In case of the Intercooler, when I questioned how the front bumpers are removed, he is ignorant and clueless. I did asked him whether he has checked the vehicle before I am there to take the delivery. Also he tends to put all sorts of things to inflate the bill. Ex: Front bumper removal wherein the mechanic himself clarified that he could not remove the bumper. Intercooler cleaning charges- This after the mechanic said that he just blowed air on the intercooler.

    Hi guys,
I have just given my Linea diesel for 3rd Service at 22500kms. I am actually surprised by estimated quote of 12K+tax
Please advise if you got any details on 3rd service.
SA told the engine oil itself costs around 8200rs.
I was not comfortable to pay for balancing/alignment with Ramkay as I had terrible experience of repeated follow up earlier for right adjustment.

Later in the day, SA called me saying both rear spring suspension rubber bush is damaged and got to be replaced for 550rs - wont this get covered under warranty?
Also some beading within bonnet for protection from water is missing - got to installed for 450rs.

Do you guys think all the charges are genuinely worked and charged?

Last year I replaced viper blades but it was no good - was doubtful if they didnt install new.

Please share your thoughts on this.

Even though I had some good experience with RAMKAY Service , I am not happy with their body shop.

FIrst week of Jan'2015, One bike guy came and damaged the right side of the car, The impact was little high, rear door got dent and the front door needed replacement.

I claimed insurance, they confirmed I got approval for front door change along with back door repair.

When I went after couple of days to check the status, I was kind of shocked to see they are trying to repair/fix the front door instead of replacing, after l asked them they promised they will change it and gave an apology.

They confirmed that Vehicle is ready on 16/Jan , I went their to take the delivery to they surprised me again the whole vehicle is exotic red except the front door which they replaced , It was kind of swift maroon color along with some small white paint droplets on rear bumper.

They gave me delivery on Monday.

If you are giving in RAMKAY for body shop, keep an close eye on them
