I had been to KVR FIAT, Kannur last week, to resolve an issue that KHT, Bangalore, failed do diagnose. I have long been facing a knocking noise when going over rough roads. Somehow, I always felt that the noise came from the right rear suspension. But I was wrong. This time during the trip home, I decided to try the FASS at Kannur and see if they can fix the issue. The front right wheel was slightly wobbling and making a knocking noise when going over rough roads. Since I didn't want to play around with this, I started calling the KVR FIAT as soon as I reached home, but nobody responded probably because of the continuous holidays on Oct 2 & 3rd. I feared whether they will attend to my car if I go without an appointment on 4th, Saturday, but decided to go to KVR, which is 60 KMs from my place, and I had no other option. I reached the SC at 9.00 am, and was received by the CRM, Shidhin Lal. I explained the issues to him and he immediately agreed to look into the issue. Without taking much time, they identified the root cause for the noise and wheel wobble issue - the inner tie rod ball joint (RH) is gone and needs replacement. To add to this, the lower arm ball joint boot is torn, resulting in mud entering the ball joint. Felt a little bad that the boot alone cant be replaced. The lower arm itself needs to be replaced. Decided to replace both, along with brake discs and pads, for total bill of 10k. The work that started at 9.30 was completed by 12.00, which included the following: -Tie rod replacement -Right lower arm replacement -Brake discs and pads replacement -Tyre rotation & Alignment Maintenance expense this year was a little higher. But once the work was completed, the car is back on road, smooth and silent as it used to be. Service experience from KVR FIAT was excellent, nothing to complain. All parts were readily available. I have a feeling that labor charges were less. The technician who worked on my car seemed to be from the old school. He had worked in an automobile workshop for 20 years in the Middle East, came back and joined KVR TATA-FIAT SC. When TATA and FIAT separated, he opted to continue with FIAT. The CRM has been with FIAT for over four years. Will I visit KVR FIAT again? Yes. I would plan to get all the service work done during my trips home.
