Yes. I also topup on my own and I use the distilled water from the Shell. I also give instructions (not strictly but friendly) to the SA on what needs to be done and what not. For this reason, they always call me back before doing anything. But, I don't bother to question minor items on the bill. I believe in moving with those guys in a friendly manner to get my things done instead of questioning them for each and everything. For this reason, I am always attended to promptly even if I don't have prior appointment sometimes.

I try to be friendly too. But sometimes it just does not work. For example, when the SE was filling out the form for booking my T-Jet, he wrote Mud Flaps under free accessories. I immediately told him that I do not want mud flaps fitted, as they drill ugly holes on the rear bumper. He promptly struck it off. I made it a point to remind him of that at least thrice during the next week, while the rest of the process was happening.

Come delivery day, the car is brought in nice and shiny, sporting ugly mud flaps with uglier screws and even uglier holes in the bumper. The SE smiles and tells me, "Sorry Sir. The guys assumed I forgot to add mud flaps and did it on their own" :A :A

So much for being friendly. Sorry, but sometimes it just does not work.

Coming back to topic, I will be extremely happy to pay if the SA tells me - "Sir, borewell water is not a good choice for windshield washing. So I added distilled water and additive. I of course have to charge you for both" , rather than saying "Sorry Sir. They assumed and decided to deface your 10 L car by drilling ugly holes. I am sure you don't mind. I am not charging you for it, after all"

DISCLAIMER: I DID NOT BUY THE CAR FROM KHT.

I could understand. This is the typical Indian attitude. Doing something which they are not instructed to do or not doing anything which they are supposed to do. Unfortunately, this could happen with anyone with any dealer. When I bought Hyundai Getz in 2006, I requested the SA to use 3M RE35 films. While taking delivery, he came and told that 3M HP20 is done on my car and he even did not agree with me that I requested to do RE35. He justified his work.

Forget about the sales. That is a onetime experience. At least with the service people, it is always better to move friendly as far as possible.

could have been a mistake..... or there should have been a leak in the tank from where the motor sits..... but the second option is highly impossible as one can easily find that out and surely the technician would fix it....

so could have been a simple human error...... hopefully nothing like that ever happens.....

incase you dont want the fluid to be added plz do mention when the sa is taking the inventory of the vehicle.... but its recomended that u do get the fluid mixed with water.

borewell water in bangalore has a hardness of 250~350 ppm which doesnt do much harm to the motor.....

i stayed in vellore for 4 years doing my B.tech ... the borewell water there had a hardness of 2600~ 2850 ppm ..... i had a water softner at home( reverse osmosis) that gave out water at 600 ppm. which could not be used for driking also.

coz drinking water needs 25~ 50 ppm max. i used to use that 600 ppm water to wash my head. though the filter used to become black in two months time and i had to replace it quite often.

how i know all this, my friend who was doing his chemical engg in my college flicked the water hardness tester from the lab and left it at my place. since then i always used to keep testing water from different places.

BTW our mineral water bottles can be fake some times. the hardness has to be 15 ppm but it varies till 100 ppm ( adultrated water bottles)

The same high ppm water can be more hazardous for cooling system if mixed with coolant. Can we believe TASS uses demineralized water for diluting coolant ?:)

Thanks for the info. But I would suggest you please try to fully read and understand what has been posted, before responding.

    1. I have posted saying I topup the tank myself with water and additive. There is no question of telling the SA if the fluid should be added or not.

    2. I am talking about salt marks that borewell water leaves on the glasses, if not wiped away promptly. I am not saying anything about motors here. I do believe that 100 ppm fake mineral water is still better than 250 ppm borewell water.

The coolant for FIAT need not be diulted. The Paraflu which comes in 1 litre package simply needs to be poured into the coolant reservior. So the question of diluting the coolant does not arise for the Punto and Linea.

I had the same experience when I took delivery of my Punto from Concorde Cochin. Even after giving to them in writing to fix the screws of the mudflaps from inside they did the usual way. Complained about the same to Fiat and go the bumper replaced free of cost.

But manual says it must be 40% Paraflu UP and 60% distilled water.
    And it requires 7.6 Ltrs.

I stand corrected :). Just picked up the coolant bottle and it confirms what you have just mentioned. The coolant is a concentrate. Now time to stock up distilled water at home for the topping up purposed.

1 litre coolant concentrate with 1.5 litres of distilled water = 2.5 litres coolant. Voila this quantity is more than sufficient for the top up purposes.:evilsmile
