If you have an RO water purifier at home, you can use the filtered water to fill the wash and wipe reservoir. It doesnt leave any salt marks. RO purifier outputs water with a TDS of 20-40. Even Kavery water is fine, which has a hardness of 50-150 range.

Including me, I fear we are going off topic. From service center review to quality of ground water.

Never ever pour concentrate coolant to the chamber. The viscosity of the coolant matters lot for the circulation.

There is no need to get sarcastic. I was talking about the usage of hard water by ASS and the salt marks they leave on the glass, whereas you went into explaining PPM and how it will affect the motor, which was totally out of context. I do not make my own additive, so there is no savings involved. I buy branded additive and bottled water, both of which come at a cost, possibly more expensive than Rs. 87. I have no qualms spending extra to keep my car in good shape.

Any way, I am not paying 87 rupees for 1 ml of additive. I am very sure that is a total rip off.

had serviced my punto at KHT last week n was charged an extra of rs 251 for consumables, when asked wat r these consumables i was told for greese n waste cloth by the service advisiors arun and bharath,my question is.... is it common for the service center to charge for the above said consumables(guess the two wheeler service centers do not levy such charges).

There is no standards for these charges, sometime they will charge, sometime not.
Better to demand how they calculated these items.

sorry mate there was no sarcasm involved.... im always very friendly with everyone whom i speak to.... i talk to everyone like they r my own friends.....

    sorry if u felt bad:sad1:sad1:sad1:oops::oops::oops:

anyways....:) i know that other additives that u get outside are more than 87Rs:)( i only happened to see one kind of soap that was 40 rs for a small bottle like 50 ml or so that smelled like rotten eggs:eek: believe me) so if you are already using the something thats more costly why do u ant to waste 87Rs???

thats why i asked you to mention it the next time you go to a service station.....

I use the Sonal clear view 1:100 concentrate which costs around 350 bucks for 250 ml. However, what I have observed is that it gets too soapy even at 1:100, so going at 1:150 ratio. At this rate, the bottle lasts quite a few refills and will definitely work out cheaper than the 87 bucks one. Not trying to justify, but still 87 seems a bit too much of a hog wash, irrespective which service center is doing it and on top it, the not everybody will guarantee a good quality water (based on the discussion in the above posts).

If the service centers are keen on doing it, they should do it as complimentary. (note just KHT, every other service center for all manufacturers). Anyways, I am trying to get hold of the 3M glass cleaner concentrate, If I am able to get that, nothing like it. Though cost can be a concern.

In all these discussions, a couple of pertinent points have completely been sidelined and forgotten for which there are are no answers as yet. Hence, reproducing some of the quotes herre. Also, moving those posts from other threads to this Service centre review thread.

First, a TFIan savinvas posts his service invoice & asks for advice from the forum.

Members shared their experiences for certain items – either they were not charged or when they questioned the charges were reversed.

(Though care should have been taken to avoid harsh words (masked now) straightaway so that TASC has an opportunity to put forward its stance first).

savinvas mentions that he asked but SA was not able to answer exactly what that was about & savinivas did not insist to remove as he was not sure whether it’s standard practice or not. Fair.
Another member mentions his similar experience asking if it is a standard practice.
Few other members mentioned they have never been charged for such items.

    Response from TASC:

As a perspective, like what ramjn mentioned, I also take such things in my stride many a times. Though I would have checked the bill, noticed it, asked it, not got satisfactory answer, I may let it go & pay, may be not wanting relationship soured because of insignificant amount. E.g. In 2009, TASC used to levy Rs. 80 in first free service (3000 kms, there was nothing to do but for the standard checks) towards Miscellaneous & consumables. I asked for it but did not get satisfactory answer & then I left it as it is.

However, when someone asks for advice, when someone raises a question on practice, then I feel it should be clarified. True that the harsh words in one or two posts were not called for straightaway. However, other couple of posts had pertinent questions and did not use harsh words.

The questions to the concerned TASC here (KHT) are:

    1. These charges or items charged in this scheduled 3rd free service – Are they as per standard prescribed policy (for charges) of Tata & approved by Tata as a Process?

May be, it does not seem so as quite a few members/ customers are not getting charged for these. So then, can a TASC choose what it wants to charge in such cases (or may be – has Tata left these charges at the discretion of each TASC?).

In either case, I do not see any hesitation expected/ required on TASC part to share the details irrespective whether customer asked before payment or after.

    2. What is included in charges levied for Consumables as asked by savinas?

    3. May be a little insight as to why other TASCs are not charging it ( since, it’s actually a standard scheduled service, I would like to believe that Tata would have a clear policy what all is to be done in a scheduled service. If anything extra/ additional to standard work, then fine – this is what savinas meant & was intending to ask). Other TASCs are also in business, are also paying all similar costs like rent, salaries etc.

    4. Why such charges are promptly removed if a customer questions and if the customer does not question, he ends up paying?

    5. Sorry, I do not agree to “the customer should have checked the bill”. Not in right spirit. It’ll be perfect to use in a Court of Law but not in a relationship between in car customer & dealer where trust could be an important ingredient for long term relationship, if parties intend to keep long term relationships.

Another example of significant fluctuation in service practice is the wheel alignment and balancing during free service. Wheel alignment is a check up and adjustment. There is no consumables involved. In balancing only weights are needed to be charged. But during my last service both were charged. In Chennai alignment is included in free service. Only weights added are charged. Why there is not a common policy?

Goa TASS charges Rs 500, during service, for some lubricants which they apply on door and a spray for side windows(3M). They are not asking the customer whether they want it or not. This extra care is not reflected when it comes to coolant filling. They use water to fill the coolant for top up. God knows whether it is demineralized water. It is clear that they want to sell as much as 3M products since it give them extra income.
