Finally finally and finally my Fiat Linea Dynamic (F Red) was delivered to me on Jul 30th (after 40days of waiting). I must admit buying the Fiat car at KHT Motors has been by far the most horrifying experience for me. Yes, it is true! Let me take you through my experience...

    Test Drive:
I took a test drive of Fiat Linea from KHT motors during first week of June. Test drive was ok, I decided to go with Linea Dynamic F Red. I was purchasing this car on Company lease scheme. The sales rep sent me a Proforma invoice (included 12K corporate discount) and it looked like they were offering more discounts than the other dealer. I made it clear to the sales guy that this purchase is through company lease scheme, and he confirmed that the offers stand good.

"My first mistake": I decided to go ahead with KHT motors. The leasing company was recommending a different dealer.

    Order placing:
Once I got all required approvals at the office I gave a go ahead to the car leasing company. The KHT Motors sales rep pressurized me to pay an advance amount, while the car leasing company processes my papers. I paid 25K on June 21st. On 28th June I received a call from car lease company saying that KHT motors has revised the proforma invoice and that there will be an increase of 12K in the on road price!!! :shocked

On 29th June, I took leave to go and meet the sales manager (Bijay Singh) from KHT motors. I was shocked at the un professional attitude displayed by the sales manager. His had only one thing to say, it was a typo from the sales guy and we cannot honor the proforma sent earlier. He cooly said cancel your order and take your 25K back. "My second mistake": I did not cancel the order.

When I asked that I would like to meet the MD, the sales manager said MD was not available. I asked for a phone number which he was not ready to give. He gave me an e-mail ID. I had a black berry with me so I sent a mail immediately to the MD (the sales manager did not expect it). MD replied immediately asking me to come and meet. As a matter of fact the MD was very much in office. I realised that the sales manager lied to me. The MD too said nothing could be done. The sales manager said he would throw in the car cover as a deal, not more than that.

At this point in time If I switched the dealer I was told there is a waiting period of 3 weeks for the F Red color. Since I was promised a delivery date of 7th July, I decided to continue with KHT motors. The formal PO was raised on 30th June.

    Car Delivery:
I was exchanging my car (Santro) as a part of the deal. The guy who was buying my car called me on 3rd July saying "your Linea car has arrived in showroom". I called up KHT motors and I was told that the car will arrive 10 days later. When I mentioned about the car having arrived, the sales manager became furious. I could hear him (on phone) shouting at the sales guy on who is giving me this (read as: false) information. The KHT Motors MD says there is a transporter related issue. The car is ready at the plant, but no means to get it to Bangalore. I believed them.(another mistake)

On 15th July I called again only to find that the delivery is delayed by another 10 days. When I questioned why the status is not being communicated to me proactively, and that I am calling to check the delivery status. The sales manager said one of the sales leader's will call me and give updates frequently, which never happened. I was told that there is a delay in transportation of the car and that alternate transportation is being arranged. I am still not sure if this was another lie.

I read on one of blog posts that for any issues I could contact Mangesh Kodalkar who was Manager -Customer Services at Pune. He responded quickly asking for booking details. Once I provided them, there was no further response again. Not sure if an action was taken.

I kept calling KHT Motors every alternate day, and was told that the car will arrive by 23rd July. Again this date moved to 27th July. Upon repeated requests the Asst GM of KHT motors gave in writing that the car will arrive on 27th and that I could take delivery on 29th July. On 26th July I got a call from KHT motors reporting that the car has indeed arrived in the garage. I informed that I will take delivery on July 30th Friday evening.

    On the delivery day:
I reached the showroom at 5PM(I was almost sure that there will be another gol mal), and was told that last minute cleaning was taking place. Since I was suggeted (by family) to take keys by 5:45PM I went to the service garage (its a different place) to take delivery. Car was cleaned and the sales leader who accomplished me handed the keys at 5:45PM. Phew just made it!!!!

Honestly, more than the happiness of taking car delivery, I was highly frustrated & disappointed and more so agitated that I am buying a car from such a dealer. I drove the car to showroom, where the paperwork was completed. Upon my request the car features were demonstrated. A ribbon was tied to the car and a flower garland was put on the car. The sales leader apologized for the delay and handed the keys (and a box of chocolates) to me, this time in front of the showroom while a picture was taken. The car was taken to fill petrol, it looked like they filled in couple of liters of petrol ( not bad I thought).

I got floor mats, trunk mats, sun film, perfume bottle and Lord Ganesha idol. I enquired about the car cover that was promised. The sales leader has promised that the car cover will be delivered to me as soon as they get the stock. Am still waiting.

All the while I was in showroom, the sales manager made sure he avoided me. May be its just me, I was expecting too much here. Finally I drove away, it took me an hour to come out of the bad feeling and really feel that I was indeed driving my dream car Linea.

I again went back next weekend to get the number plates fixed, the procedure followed was: A tester sized screwdriver was used to make holes in my car :irked I felt bad watching at the way it was done. I expected 4 screws to be used on 4 corners of the number plates, however only top 2 ends holes were drilled and screws fitted.

Nail in the coffin: At the time of delivery one of the KHT guys quitely mentioned to me that they actually received my car during 1st week of July. However the car was given to a buyer who was paying in full cash. I was told that F Red had a waiting period of 2 to 3 weeks and since my order was through a car leasing company, they siphoned my car to another buyer who was paying in full cash.

After understanding how to decode the vehicle Chasis number, today I can confidently say that KHT motors took undue advantage of this situation, My chasis number reads GNZ (means July 2010). One of documents that I found attached to the headrest in the car has a date of 13th July printed on it. So it was clear that my car was more recent one. All the stories I was told on July 5th that my car was ready at the plant and no transportation was a big fat lie!

    Final Verdict:
Dealer: I would not go to them again. :thumbs down
    Sales Manager(Bijay Singh): Highly unprofessional.
    Sales Leader(Deepak & Aravind): Good
Showroom: Good facility, I was told that their service center was largest in Bangalore. But the Sales was pathetic.

    First Congrats Lineaman.
Its really sad to see your buying experience. I was in an impression that KHT is best of the lot in Bangalore. But looks are same.

Delay in delivery is normal with ll dealers (if you are paying full cash, you would get any car on time). But the behavior/attitude and customer handling they have to learn.

Hope you forget your buying experience soon, enjoy the ride.

I guess all dealers are like this. Kulathunkal Motors in Trivandrum also did this to me. He didn't place order with the Fiat until I paid the full amount (including insurance) and then had to wait for about 10 days :irked :irked :irked and gave all sorts of lies to make me wait.

Is this at Whitefield ? Isn't it where the meet is planned ::OO
Even I got a similar response 'your car is ready but there is a problem with transportation' . One important thing for prospective new car owners is to pester the dealer for the Chassis number after the full payment is made. This will avoid situations where the car has arrived but has been given to someone else just because they paid in cash.

hey everyone.........sry for not being online and active here but jus been a lil 2 busy trying 2 sort out a lot of teething issues in terms of manpower, systems and processes.....for me its been like a living hell as we ended up picking up all of manipal staff (old tata fiat dealer) who were never really of that quality that i would want to hire.....and then the whole process weeding out the unwanted guys........at the same time i have been trying 2 b involved in every customer problem from workshop to sales 2 ensure that customer complaints are addressed properly........

there are always issues with the principal company in terms of vehicle transportation as transportation is outsourced and no 1 has any control on that.....if a vehicle has been handed over to the transporter we now have 2 b at the mercy of the driver to ensure he brings the vehicles in teh given time frame.......a driver might call saying his trailer tyres r flat and changing a trailer tire sure is a pain n time consuming.....but i dont know how true tht is........they can come up with number of excuses but no way for us 2 counter check that unfortunately........

there have been cases of unsatisfied customers who have bought their vehicles from us but it would be appreciated that every 1 working here is human and can make mistake......any 1 can make mistakes n e where which ever field which ever business which ever service.......looking at it from my point of view you being the customer and paying a huge sum of money definately are entitiled to everything that u deserve but there will b times that something can go wrong and we are willing 2 correct it........but at teh same time we cannot do it all by ourselves without you being cooperative and realistic........

for example i interacted with a customer who wanted to buy the punto but no doubt has offers from my codealers also but he was insisting on me giving him alloy wheels over and above every offer from us n others..... ::OO ........... its jus to be realistic that whatever within our reach we would gladely give but every 1 has 2 b realistic in their own stand....... its a simple calculation :-

    vehicle price - xxxxxx
    discounts from company - xxxxxx
dealer sharing in company discounts - xxxxx ( which is deducted from teh dealer margin )
balance dealer margin - xxxxx ( whatever is left after giving the discount scheme from the company) ( which is a very nominal amount )

balance dealer margin - need 2 meet overhead expenses of bank interest, salaries, sales commission, electricity, stationary, misc items used for cleaning cars n maintenance, test drive car's fuel expense etc etc.....

its definately not a green picture....... but at teh same time every has my assurance that i can b approached at any time for any problem........

my team is now ready after removing all the dead wood and my senior sales manager mr bijay singh is a very capeable person with a lot of experience in the automobile field and professional enough to sort out any issues that arise. he has been with me since even before we started the showroom officially and is very well aware of how things have to b addressed.
if there are any issues with my dealership unsorted pls do bring it 2 my notice.

assuring you all of the best service and sales offers always.

i can also be reached @ adit_morzaria@khtmotors.com - request u 2 kindly mention team fiat in the subject line when mailing me.

Hi Adit its nice to have you on the forum. The first and foremost thing on the part of the sales rep is to be informed about the product. The information should at finger tips and not going back every time to refer to a passive source and get back to the customer. I understand it is tough, but without being tough the success will also be tougher.

I was really surprised when I visited your showroom seeking information about Punto for my colleague. Sorry I missed the Sales rep name. He knew nothing about the car. Finally I ended up explaining the features of the car to my colleague. End result. he purchased i20.

I hope the things I mentioned in the right sense, as I am an avid FIAT fan.

    Cheers
